L’Armada, Rouen, France / 5-14 Juillet 2008 The spectacular event, held every five years, brought together a spectacular variety of sailing ships from all around the world. During a week of celebrations between 5th and 14th July 2008, over fifty tall, masted and square-rigged sailing ships, old-rigged sailing ships, private yachts, and naval vessels were moored along Rouen’s quayside, bringing more than ten million visitors. The festival culminated on the 14th of July with the spectacular Armada parade when the vessels sailed down river in all their glory from Rouen to Honfleur. Shot with a handy Sony!
The Kathleen & May was built in 1900 and is the only wooden triple masted sailing schooner still in existence. Here she is seen sailing out to see in the evening light after attending the Bristol Harbour Festival 2009. This image is best viewed large.
