  • 4×6 inches, watercolour, gouache and gold ink, 2008. This was a commission piece. The client liked one of my other Sebastian paintings and wanted a similiar piece. The previous painting he liked was an ACEO so I kept the figure and the sky similar but opened up the painting and revealed more of his body and the landscape in the background. I heightened the emotion of the piece with a more intense expression of sorrow on his face. The client was very happy with the finished painting.

  • Heretic
    by LetThemEatArt

    US$17.10–US$91.20

The great Gnostic Italian philosopher, Giordano Bruno, who was burned at the stake in Rome in 1600 AD. The leading authority on Bruno was Frances Yates (University of London) who researched and wrote a book entitled ‘Giordano Bruno and the Hermetic Tradition’. Bauval cites and borrows heavily from Yates in his book ‘Talisman’ in which he traces the history of European Gnosticism, and links Bruno’s philosophy to major world events (ie. the founding of the Rosacrucian Order, the Bavarian Illuminati, the French Revolution, the American Revolution and the founding of the USA, and the planning design of the cities of Paris, London and Washington). Bruno, along with other influential thinkers of the Medieval and Late Medieval period, such as Tommaso Campanella and Cagliostro, exerted a far reaching influence that has shaped the modern world. Bruno’s philosophy was based upon Hermetic knowledge stemming from Ancient Egypt.

This is a graphite pencil sketch where the assignment was to do a historical related illustration. I have always been fascinated by Greece and Rome, and their respective histories, mainly where art is concerned. I wanted to depict a scene that was full of energy, told a story, and grabbed the viewer’s attention.
