This is from the series Mars Attack “The Passover” The visitors are passing directly over us as we look in wonder. / All eyes are glued to the sky as we stand and tremble. / The dog is barking at the sky I wonder if he knows? / That soon our whole worlds gonna change forced on us by strangers! / My minds confused as I stand and look what the hell is going on? / Just last week we were in the church praying to Baby Jesus. / But this has put a different player in to my religion. / I wonder who he’s praying to or even if he cares! / My wife’s still looking at the sky as I struggle with my mind. / And all my neighbors are in a trance as this thing go’s by. / And little Trudi’s standing there she’s peed in her new blue jeans. / And her friend Kim from down the street has done the same thing too. / And Mike the guy who’s always ready to come and play some cards. / Is on his knees in his front yard praying up to God. / My mind is still a little foggy as I look to all my neighbors and then Judi comes up to me and says she’s really frightened. / It looks to me that everyones scared as we look at it pass by. / And then I hear someone start to scream so loud it waked me from my thoughts. / Its Janis who’s from the next block over she’s the local artist. / I guess this night will get her busy painting brand new things no more fruit on little tables for this pretty lady. / She’s pointing in the other direction and oh Lord what’s that I see? / As far as my eyes will go are these giant flying sauces. / We all stand and look up at the sky I think someone has fainted! / Yep its Fred my kinky neighbor this is even too much for him as he’s passed out on the front yard in his pink rubber suit. / As far as my eyes will take me its full of flying saucer I guess these things aren’t joking now it looks like they mean business! / And running down the streets towards us is my online friend named Karen. / She’s telling everybody that these things are gonna kill us all. / I tell her to sit on the grass and take a little break if they had wanted us dead it would of been all over. / So here we stand all looking up and all that I can see is the sky so full of visitors to bring a change to our blue Planet! Today the word Fortean has come to mean anomalous phenomena. Hello everybody!! / Relax this thing is just passing over Alan an I have been watching this for the last half hour so just relax its not going to land here !! I hope. / Well what the hells it doing and what are we gonna do? / Karen just relax its not looking for us its after the leaders so it seems so no one here is a leader so just relax and getting excited about this thing is not going to help anyone. / Anyone seen my wife? / Yea Dave she’s with Romo in the play room down stairs. / Was she ok or still crying? / She looked happy for a change since Romo showed up! / Hey Alan what’s going on with that woman who’s talking to the plant? / What’s her name? / Shanina Dave and she’s still in her own world. / She say anything at all? / Nope didn’t hear a thing but Trudi might know something more! / Where she? / Don’t know she was here a few minutes ago! / Hey Dave I saw her with that woman you bought in Kate they were talking before we all came back out here. / Look Dave its a lot bigger now and gee its really big!! / Its so big the sky’s starting to get dark. / Hey Dave what do you think its doing coming this way Manhattans that way! / I think its looking for something and its got a lot of room for holding what ever it want’s to hold so lets just keep out fingers its not looking for any of us! / Hey Dave!! “Mike running out of breath!” / Hey Dave!! Its the air phone! its that woman who was coming from California with some guy names Clive! / I think she said MiMi. / Oh yea I was expecting them to show up tomorrow. / Hello MiMI this is Dave. / Hi Dave we won’t be there tomorrow it seems we have a problem here all the roads seem to be blocked up and no one is being allowed to travel ! / What? they are blocking the roads? / Yep all of the roads on the interstate are blocked from all the conversations I have had with others traveling they all say the same thing! / So what do you see? / They have these small space crafts just sitting on the highway in both directions and no one can pass. / But to make things worse no ones cars are able to start and they just told us to sit still, they were looking for someone and once they had him they would allow us to travel on! But until they had him it was best for our safety to remain in our cars. / What the hell could that be? / I don’t know but its seems somethings going on that they didn’t expect or they wouldn’t block up all the roads! / MiMI, we have approaching us a hugh space ship its really big my guy Mike says its 3 miles wide! / Gee three miles wide? / Yep and its moving fast it was the size of a dime 45 minutes ago and now its the size of a half dollar. / Oh gee! / And its really loud too! / Hold on Dave they are talking to us! / Mike, Alan! With Earth as the leader, the planets of the Solar System have turned against poor Pluto excluding him from their group of planets. He is now demoted to a dwarf planet. This contemporary themed image is build upon events in which Pluto was degraded and reclassified to a dwarf planet. It is now no longer part of the classic line of planets in our Solar System as I’ve been used to. It’s strange when you’ve been able to memorize the planets ever since you were a kid and for the future will have to leave this little icy rock out. I liked doing a smaller and less extensive project for a change. I had this simple idea, and worked on/off for about a week before completing this. I had great fun stuffing as many little funny details into the image as I could, and I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed making it! Visit MathiasPedersen.com to see more of my artwork.

Medium: Digital / Size: 9.2” x 5.2” / Description: Completed in 2007 by digitally colouring ink drawings of 2 tripods, each taking 3 hours to pen. Based on the brilliant novel War of the Worlds by H G Wells. I wanted to really design the tripod in a different way to what had been done before. I wanted to show that the machines themselves were originally designed by the martians to use on their own dusty home world, hence the desert inspired hoods. Also, after extensive reading of the books, I devised my own interpretation of the legs and drew up sliding disk mechanisms that would allow the tripod a graceful movement. I designed them with my own back story, in that the Martian’s had surveyed our planet since the dinosaurs and modeled their walkers on the giant lizards to strike fear into our minds. I was a long process, but it wanted to do it justice. In fact, the tripod design I have concocted is still a work in progress and I will devote more time to their workings. With the global economy caught in the gravity of the financial crisis, it’s sad that programs like the Constellation Project will have a long wait before anything truly gets off the ground. / / NASA’s Constellation Project is set up to finish the International Space Station, retire the Shuttle Fleet and build a whole new fleet of space vehicles which will take us back to the Moon, then Mars and then the places beyond. / / But with Congressional limitations and funding cutbacks due to the financial crisis, as well as being stuck with a complicated and restrictive “go as you pay” finance structure it’s unlikely we’ll be seeing any groundbreaking manned space flights in the naughties. / / This image represents a fleeting memory of a childhood dream to see man explore our planets and then the stars beyond and it’s one of the few things as a child I looked up to America for. / / The universe is a big place and we’re yet to make it out of our solar system but without programs like the Constellation Project, man may never ever get to make another giant leap. / / DETAIL / / / /

by richie foxAbstract Macro Photography The picture below is a stolen, burnt out car. / This is showing the rear right side. / You can see what has been produced by the fire / Armley Woods, Leeds. / sunday 31.5.09 / 7.15am / For all these phenomina to appear on the car, the car has been left on fire, and eventually, there is nothing left on the car to burn, so it just dies out. the paint work on the car , bubbles up and seperates itself from the metal at very hot temperatures. / Once it is all cool down, it is very delicate. / You just blow the flakey paint lightly, and this abstract art lies beneath. / If the car had been put out by water, im pretty sure that no abstracts would have appeared.
