Marley Mandala commissioned for friends 21st birthday – Happy Birthday Alannah! / Acrylic on canvas. Hair is the symbolic antenna of the body, connecting us with the divine. So Bob Marleys dreads connect him with the divine and with us, through his amazing music. It has taken me two and a half years to listen to “Redemption Song” again without bursting into tears (it was played at my late partners funeral) – but when I was painting this mandala, I put on my Marley CD and listened to it in entirety – including Redemption Song. I finally put it all to rest when I picked up my guitar and played it. “These songs of freedom…”

On Monday, February 23, 2009 there was a medical marijuana rally for MMJ provider Charles C. Lynch, who was arrested in 2007 by the DEA… you can read more about it here on my blog This Image – part of my project ( The MMJ Project which is focused on the medical marijuana experience in California from a patients viewpoint ) is the creating Positive Propaganda by giving away Medical Marijuana 1” buttons at clinics for patients to wear and spread the good word with a smile… I made about 120-150 buttons for the rally mentioned above to give away as souvenirs for the people who attended. The purpose here is to move the image further out, across the world, for all medical marijuana everywhere – enjoy

Terry Southern is, without a doubt, one of my favorite writers of all time. If you don’t know who he is: now, you do Or, if you’re too lazy to click that link, here are just a few quick facts about the guy: - He’s the only guy sporting shades on the cover of The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s album. / - He co-wrote Dr. Strangelove with Stanley Kubrick, and is largely responsible for shifting the tone of the film from stone sober cautionary tale to ludicrous cautionary tale. / -He once wrote a short story that culminated in the revelation of President Nixon’s sick addiction to rimming the amputated anuses of dead Viet Cong, shipped fresh to him daily from the DMZ. If that doesn’t tickle your funny bone, I don’t know what will. / -Along with William Burroughs, Jean Genet, and Allen Ginsberg, he experienced and documented first-hand the federally instigated massacre at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. This is another one of those one hour portraits I’ve been doing. Had this one sitting around for a while, and finally decided to upload it today. Hope you dig it. Oils on 8” x 10” canvas panel.
