Bark on a Eucalyptus tree in Healesville, near Melbourne, Australia. This looks like a little dolphin swimming upstream … well, thats a bit of a problem as dolphins swim in the sea, so I guess its a fish prentending to be a dolphin. I never cease to be amazed at how much color there is in the bark of these trees. / /
Macro shot of the bark of a gum tree at Botanical Gardens, Melbourne, Australia. I flipped the image 90 degrees and it reminded me of the strata you see at an archeological dig … layers of different colored dirt, and in the top layer some shells, which are so often found near the surface of a dig where ancient peoples have lived. Taken with Nikon D80 1/60s f/9 ISO 400 macro 105mm on tripod. /
this flower reminded me how beautiful people having infirmities are. At first, many of us would just see the infirmity, how different it looks and some may also find it ugly or feel repulsed, even being a little afraid. But then, getting to know the person, seeing him/her with different eyes, even love maybe, he/she just appears to us to be so beautiful ! / so I had to shoot this flower and make it look beautiful … / ... / /
this is part of my “Variance Collections 2009 -Pi” catalogue. / many other variations of colors are available. this is just a little idea of this one as most of them have such different moods / feelings / . / it was hard to choose which one to upload here. I was hesitating with one very warm yellows and browns. But I finally chose this one for its special night vision and ambiance. / I don’t want to annoy you by duplicating works in my folio, so I’ve just added the preview on the right side here. / which one do you prefer ? / If you’d like to see it full size or purchase a card or print, just leave a comment here and I will change the view / make it available. / . / / . /

Marguerite Porete was a French mystic and the author of The Mirror of Simple Souls, a work of Christian Spirituality dealing with the workings of Divine Love. She was burnt at the stake for heresy in Paris in 1310 after a lengthy trial, after refusing to remove her book from circulation or recant her views. The book is cited as one the primary texts of the medieval Heresy of the Free Spirit. / After Marguerite’s death The Mirror of Simple Souls continued to be distributed across Europe, where it was translated into several languages, including English. In spite of its reputation as a heretical work it remained popular in Medieval times and in some ecclesiastical centres was embraced as an almost canonical piece of theology. Between Porete’s death and the identification of her as the work’s author in 1946 the Mirror was circulated as an anonymous work, Porete’s name having been struck from it. / I was talking to friends over the weekend and suddenly realised that I too would have been burnt for heresy because I claim to communicate with the dead. The question that interested me the most is how many people would stand up in my defence? Not many I feel. What makes me even happier is that no one will have to be put to the test and that includes myself. I dedicate this Painting to Marguerite Porete and quote William Wordsworth…..... I feel how in their presence doth abide / Light which to God is both the way and guide; / And, kindling at their luster, if I burn. / My noble fire emits the joyful ray / That through the realms of glory shines for aye….... In memory of Marguerite Porete who died today – 699 years ago, 1st June 1310. June 1st 2009
