  • I had set out Sunday evening an hour before sunset to get photos. I am running out of places to go around here and sorta getting tired of revisiting the trees I love to take shots of, so I just drove rather without thinking much about where I was going (was I led? I think so!) I ended up down a way out of the way gravel road I have never been on and rose over the crest of the hill looking out for nice trees on my right to take sunset shots of and noticed movement in the corner of my eye in a paddock on the left. It was this little fella all by himself!!!! I pulled the car over and told Fudge to stay put. Jumped out and went over. He was so scared and wary, yet I could tell he needed help. He’d come towards me baaing, but if I made moves towards him he would run off quickly and then stop a little further away and start crying again :( I looked around and there wasn’t a sheep in sight!! He was all alone and with Sunset in less than 30 mins now … if the cold didn’t get him that night I knew the foxes would so I had to get him back to his Mum!! I have had a scary run-in with a farmer before that has made me very cautious of jumping fences now (sadly) but I didn’t care this time … I was too worried about this little fella, so I got inside the other side of the fence and just stopped. Listened intently. I could hear the rest of the sheep off to my left a LONG way away. So I decided to start rounding the lamb up by walking around behind him and making him walk in that direction. :) Wasn’t easy. LOL He had a huge tendency to want to go right ;) So, walking behind him and with him doing a fair trot we started off :) It took me a good 30 mins (probably a 2km walk with the little fella) and near the end I was practically walking right behind him he was that tired …. but we got to the top of a hill and over the top was the rest of the sheep :) He stopped … listened … heard them … baa’ed …. listened, then started running towards them :) I just stood where I was and watched … waiting to finally see him join up … he went straight to a sheep and started suckling :) :) It was so beautiful!!!! That was the reason I was led down that road on that cold Sunday night … not for a Sunset photo and a nice Tree …. to save a life :) And I felt good :) :) :)

  • The Nunamullen Bridge in Clackline on the Great Eastern Highway, East of Perth, Western Australia. Construction of a bypass around Clackline has started. The bypass involves a 1.5 km realignment of the highway away from the township (between the west end of Clackline and Nunamullen Bridge). The existing timber bridge will be bypassed and replaced with a reinforced concrete box culvert structure. $3 million has been made available for this project. When complete, motorists and heavy vehicles will no longer have to slow down while passing through Clackline or travel across the existing narrow and dangerous wooden bridge.

  • If you are ready for adventure, then you are ready for this t-shirt! The design, complete with fountain pen ink splatters, was inspired by antique Mercator maps of the world. It is titled “TERRA ORBIS GEOGRAPHICA” (as written on the banner on the t-shirt), which is Latin for “Map including the New World”.

  • On the edge of the Rio Tejo (Tagus) stands a grand momument to the explorers of Portugal….Those intrepid men from Lisbon and beyond, who made such an undeniably long lasting change to their world, and ours. Pause for a moment….I looked up the subject of Portuguese Explorers at Wikipedia. There are no less than 108 pages of these gregarious fellows, who left the safety of home and hearth to find a world, waiting quietly to be uncovered. There is a favorite tome in my library, called aptly, “The Mapmaker”, by Frank Slaughter. It is a novel about the man who drew the famous map of the world in 1436. His name was Andrea Bianco, and Lisbon was the center of the then known universe. King John I, is on the throne of Portugal, and the age of exploration is about to explode, for the curiosity of this man knows no bounds. He seeks knowledge of the ends of the earth. Andrea is a real man, a mapmaker from Venice, who lived long before Columbus. So is Infante D. Henrique, Prince of Portugal, born in 1394. The Infante (Prince) had a colorful life. He established a school for the art of navigation, mapmaking, and shipbuilding in Portugal, which was to influence those skills for hundreds of years to follow. Wikipedia disputes this, but having visiting schools of this fashion myself, in South America, I know from experience that these schools are often very small and humble. Henry’s life lends credence to this scenario, in that he, although in a royal lineage, did not flaunt his wealth, but used it for helping others, and funding exploration. He is described as a man of “soft words” and mild mannered. http://library.thinkquest.org/J002678F/prince_henry_the_navigator.htm This tiny nation of Portugal, was the first European land to explore the unknown world. The European projenitor of discovery, the concept that man will always want to reach for the stars. My little book, and my visit to Lisbon, began to unravel a bit of the puzzle that has lain dormant in my soul for a number of years…The pieces are starting to fit together…
