The Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion in (Georgetown, Penang) malaysia the Winner of the UNESCO Conservation Award 2000 National Architecture Award for Conservation 1995. / Also called the blue Mansion. Was the main location for the film ‘Indochine’ featuring Catherine Deneuve. / The Mansion is now also opened as a boutique hotel (where I stayed..). Photo featured in ‘SilverKris’ a Singapore Airline Magazine in Nov 2008 Issue

MY FAVORITE COUNTRY ROAD Best viewed large. / “MY FAVORITE COUNTRY ROAD” was featured in the group COUNTRY ROADS/AROUND THE WORLD / / “MY FAVORITE COUNTRY ROAD” was featured in the group NATURAL COLOR AND LIGHT / This is a recent photo of my favorite country road! It is located in Flatwoods, Kentucky, in Greenup County, which lies in the northeastern part of the bluegrass state. Many of my relatives live in or just outside of Flatwoods, and my Dad built this one. The scenery from this road is almost surreal, it is so beautiful. Surrounding this road are country farms, barns and old churches. This road winds around a gorgeous mountain cloaked with a variety of lush trees and evergreens, whose leaves are radiant in the Fall of the year with brilliant shades of yellow, orange, red, brown and green. At the top of the mountain is the end of this magnificent road, which leads to a private, gated mansion that overlooks the entire county. It is very quiet and peaceful there, and everything, including time, seems to stand still on this beautiful road. It is a breath-taking view from the very top, and this is truly my favorite country road!..

Inspired by the song The Days Of Pearly Spencer which was based on a homeless man in Ballymena who was befriended by David McWilliams. The song reflected the writer’s deep humanity and his empathy with those who live on the margins of society. / Source Many thanks to Gregoryno6 who reminded me of this song last year, it’s been whirling around in my head since then. This house was built in 1929 in the Prairie’s of Manitoba…and is of a time almost gone…when every family worked the land to stay alive, well fed, and healthy. From a time when we were forced to reckon with Mother Earth just to survive on a basic level. The Prairie lifestyle is almost lost…being replaced with suburbs and expanding cities. The wildlife forced to retreat or be removed when they are a nuisance. Bears and deer are becoming scarce.Once upon a time the earth was our life and she cries out for repair….with every passing year in the Prairies there are fewer and fewer working the land to survive. A way of life lost…. ** / My Father In-laws childhood home…I found out last week that this was torn down 2 wks after this shoot…we had no idea this was going to happen…...

This is Storthes Hall Lunatic Asylum, the Mansion you see here was built in the 1700’s, went up there today with the intention of having a snoop around and get some inside shots, however when we got there security had other ideas. We were quickley confronted and asked to leave, i said we only want to atke some photo’s to which he replied, “sorry not allowed to take photos, so i set about chatting to him and got on the better side and said we have come all this way and going without any shots was a shame so he said ok make it quick, so i set about firing a few off, but still could not get inside!!, turns out he has to stay here for 2 weeks solid in a porta cabin before going home when another shift arrives! at least we didnt have to cut ourselves up on hte brambles on the way out, he opened the main gate for us and let us out the easy way, quite a nice guy really, some can be total A holes and think they are all high and mighty, but he was a sound guy, my theory is be right with folk and they will be right back!

The brick walkway leading to this lovely home reminds me of a welcome mat rolled out to guests that are weary and in need of some good old-fashioned hospitality. That’s why I took the photo from this angle. Hope you like it. But there’s more to this story . . . The original photo of this charming old mansion in the Deep South was enhanced by my good pal Maria Dryfhout from Michigan.
