  • Though this bird house is actually occupied at the present time by chickadees, this male Northern cardinal paid a visit to their home and sang his heart out on top of their roof. I thought of the phrase, “Lord of the Manor,” when I witnessed Mr. Redbird perched atop the little red house (which was a gift to me from my grandson, a lovely find he came across in a National Geographic catalog and which he thought Mammy would love. I do and so do the chickadees!)

  • Trerice is an Elizabethan manor house, located in Kestle Mill near Newquay, Cornwall, UK (grid reference SW840584). The building features a a main south-east facing range of ‘E’-plan abutting a south-west range containing two earlier phases. Phase I comprised of a tower house with low north-west block. This was extended early in the 16th century, probably by ‘Jack of Tilbury’, to include a 2-storey range to the south-east of the earlier tower, together now forming the bulky south wing. Sir John IV Arundell, High Sheriff of Cornwall and father-in-law to Sir Richard Carew, historian, added the main range of the E-plan circa 1570-1573. The house, along with its surrounding garden, is a National Trust property. The garden features an orchard with old varieties of fruit trees. The property also features an exhibition on the history of the lawn mower and a collection of lawn mowers. / Ref. from Wikipedia.
