....They raped her land with disregard, once Oceans green and blue….
A glimpse of the very possible future
from a dying man to his widow to be
My absent co-worker popped in to work to / say “hi” which was really “goodbye” to all of us. His cancer treatment was not going well. As he wheeled by in his wheelchair, / he looked at me and said nothing. / Just smiled and winked. / Then I knew he was okay with / it all as how else could he be. As he left, words came to mind. / I was thinking of the unfairness of it / all, that he leave his wife (who worked / on another floor and is the sweetest / lady), in this manner. Yes, words came to mind. I wrote, fast furious, / all the words just spilled off my pen. He was a prairie farm boy, and / loved the flat prairies. Who knows where the words came from. They were words from him to her. I gave her the poem just after he / passed away. I had no way to / explain the weirdness of how / these words came easily. I did not / know him personally, only / as a co-worker. Anyhow, I don’t dwell on it / or ask why. I just write when it’s there.
I dreamt of a man, with a pen, on the moon.
Upon this twilight, in songs of Eve, / Transformed by Sun and Moon,
