Words and images by David Haviland. Thank you to MissKristy for giving me a nudge to combine my words and images. Although she was referring to another poem, when I started thinking of what image of mine to use I came to this one and the words just fell out. I have to admit to a love of trees and the solitary dead tree in the landscape, to me it does show pride and defiance that they are still standing.

Tachogna beach, Tinian Couldn’t believe the beautiful blues emerging every few minutes and the hundreds of mozzies that made a meal of me !! Tinian is about 5 miles (8km) southwest of Saipan, from which it is separated by the Saipan Channel. / Tinian is one of 3 principal islands of the Northern Mariana Islands. It’s probably best known for being the base from which the American atomic bomb attacks on Japan during World War II were launched. The Island has a variety of flora and fauna, as well as limestone cliffs and caves. There is also a variety of marine life and coral reefs surrounding the island. Its clear, warm waters are ideal for snorkeling and scuba diving.
