  • I am adding all of these dark self portraits because of the tenth anniversary today of my sobriety. damn that’s a long time. Still find it iron hard to believe. / This piece remains from 1st year University, when things were far more difficult for me, before I had come to terms with my alcoholism or my bipolar. The image is one that I have drawn several times, though this piece is the most effective. I don’t really understand why, but some people have difficulty in seeing what the figure (me) is doing.) I am hunched over, one pointy boot at the bottom, above that a knee directly out to the viewer. My right hand is wrapped around my side, coming out under my armpit. The other is clamped over my head, with my long hair hanging down through it. You get the idea… I am far from this place now. It is so named because though that is where I was, I did not stay there. And everything that I experienced felt like a horror carnival ride from some awful show. It’s torn at the top, but framed that way it looks… well it really works, definitively perhaps because the tear was not made by deliberate fingers, but by time and, hence, directly through the instability of myself and my life. I sold it from my webpage recently, to an american neuro-scientist directly from my webpage (down presently the bastard isp!) / He wrote me the most intense reply when he finally received the work. It made me cry, as he described to me that he himself had

  • I took this with more light and at a good angle a liitle about this The meek shall inherit the earth .This line went through my mind as I painted, a line I have been force fed since I was a child. I have issues with religion and fogivenss. The fact one can look up to the heavens and say I was wrong please forgive me then poof it is done, seems all a bit too easy and delusional to me. I believe man has placed religion above spiritually for convenience and in turn made the innocent cower. I think in a just world that the sin/sinner should be placed in the hands of the innocent ...what they chose to do with them is the justice. The meek shall inherit the earth…I have since leaned that you can simply make someone’s life meek/powerless by not forgiving. Maybe that’s what they meant?

  • The photograph this drawing is based on was a 35 mm slide I took about a year ago. Malvern road runs east to west, so the setting sun really perked up the colours inside and out of the tram. The tram was empty except for the driver, altough I think it’d help the scale of the image if there were some seated passengers. The image to me has a kind of manic state of mind attatched; everything is slightly off kilter, ultra saturated, and dazzling in some areas.

  • Busy business centre Paris skyline Taken from the top of the arc de triumph and have walked up all those stairs to get there felt compelled to include in finishes Art work

  • I have made this image for the Inspiration Challenge where they wanted you to find an image that really, really inspired you, perhaps that image that really got you into photography, and they wanted you to do your own response to it. Recreate it? Do one that could be part of the series? You could do what you liked but it had to be your own response. Well I chose this image, a fab, fun self-portrait by JAKE EASLEY , which always sits on page one of the all time favs here on RB. The first time I saw this I just wondered how he got such detail. I just loved his manic look, the processing etc. So I tried to recreate it in my own way, as I could never recreate that fab image! Plus I only have a tiny car with a short dashboard and I am female! Still try as I did, I couldn’t seem to pull that manic face, which did surprise me a bit, as being rather barking mad myself, I thought I would find it easy! The bright sunshine didn’t help with me trying to keep my eyes wide open either! I live in my sunglasses normally, plus I have had a foul headache for 2 days! I then processed it in PSP, with a bit of psuedo hdr & manually added the dragan effect, changed to B&W. Nikon D40 18-55mm, remote control and a big lump of bluetack! So here is the real Joy Ride image click on the image to view.
