the martian manhunter
Manhunter from the Justice League. I don’t know why I drew this character…I like him, I just don’t normally draw him often…
There was something on the news the other day about a manhunt for some professor that killed some of his students, and being the empathetic person I am I immediately thought, ‘Wow! Professor Manhunt! There’s a superhero name that hasn’t been taken yet! I think…’ So this cover is mostly a joke, but I’m starting to like the idea of an avenging pragmatic philosopher, so who knows. The face is based off of George Carlin who looked a lot like one of my profs from university, though in the end the face looks a lot more like a grey haired version of my dad. Painted in PS.
Ask just about any gay man what a “wink” is and they’ll tell you about Manhunt. It’s a subculture phenomenon. Why not have a shirt that’s brave enough to bring the wink to your real life, not just your cyber life.
This is my youngest, Avery, as a multitude of Justice League of American heroes, watercolor and darn big!

Head groggy, Detective Will Graham (William Petersen) regained consciousness as the Tooth Fairy reappeared. As he raised the shotgun, Graham snatched the weapon beside him and fired, fired twice, three times, four before the killer stopped, lurched back, and crashed to the ground. Graham slumped back down. That was close. He had to stop jumping through massive plate glass windows into murderers’ houses. Impetuous, really, but he was so damn committed to the job.
Will Graham (William Petersen) mulled it over. If they allowed the personal ad to be printed without knowing what Doctor Lektor’s message meant, they could be putting lives at risk. Though if they pulled it, they risked breaking a line of communication that could lead them to the killer. Only minutes to decide, he had to make the call. But he couldn’t tear his eyes off a second ad, offering ‘Attractive, serious 30s female, into long, pensive silences and mind games, WLTM headstrong, educated yet impetuous male, who is damn committed to stopping killers. Must like dogs.’
The padlock. Detective Graham (William Petersen) paused, rewound the tape and paused again. The killer had used a boltcutter on the branch of the tree, but not in the house, he didn’t need one. Why bring a boltcutter? These tapes were made in April, but the Leeds family had been murdered months later. So why the cutter? Dawning on him, the pieces of the puzzle suddenly one, Graham jumped to his feet. ‘He’s seen these tapes,’ the detective cried, ‘that’s how he picks them.’ He rushed to the phone, heart pounding as he dialled. I’m SO good at this, he thought, damn glad that his commitment had paid off.
