“In hot summer afternoons, dragonflies dance in the warm air. Their acrobatic flight defies gravity. Mastering the power of obstacle avoidance, these active creatures like to rest atop flower stems. Yet, this dragonfly decided to rest on the ground. / / “Seemingly indifferent to my proximity, it remained motionless basking in the sun. “Often, the best opportunity comes unexpectedly. I was observing two pretty ponies and taking photographs on their sweet faces. Suddenly, several crows arrived and started to fly in circles. As one of them took a meal in the beak, the others started chasing her. / / Spontaneity is the key in portraying animated subjects at their best. “I find ornamental grass of immense beauty. These simple, sturdy plants bear the grace, flexibility and softness hard to find in more elaborate sorts. Growing wild in the pampas, they are a common view in the vast wilderness of the Argentinean plains. I grew up surrounded by them and still today they make me stop to contemplate their beauty. The thin and tall stems, crowned by filigree plumes, are a pretty artwork of Nature. This crown found itself in a regal moment of golden sunset glow, from where I could capture its ethereal moment.” / / / / Artist statement / My photographs are not enhanced; they represent the true nature and colours of the subjects as captured by the lens. “Quietly lying by her barn, this pretty ewe made me stop my bicycle ride to pay her a visit. In a placid cool afternoon, she greeted me with a sweet glance and a calm disposition. Her face was beautiful and her eyes melted my heart. Surrounding a sea of amber and golden hues, her long white eyelashes framed surprisingly bright eyes. / / Taking close-ups on her adorable face, a rainbow of colours and patterns unveiled: the iris wore fine lines defining a gradient of rich earth colours. Her eyes sparked like jewels. “The sunlight played gracefully on the sweet face of this pretty bay horse. The warm colours of his coat shone in the afternoon sun. Lending me an inquiring eye, he approached me. His beautiful eyes delighted me while he batted his lashes with curiosity. / / Then, the perfect ray of light illuminated his profile, from where I could appreciate the softness of his lashes and the long, shiny hairs of his eyebrow. The coat turned fiery red under the warm sunlight. “It was a cold and rainy day. The sky was grey and gloomy, tickled by bare tree branches. Driving past a park, a murder (group) of crows caught my eye. They were turning maple leaves looking for a meal. Their sharp blackness stood in stark contrast against the golden leaves on the ground. / / Always interested in these intelligent yet elusive creatures, I stopped by to observe them. Keeping my distance not to disturb them, I started to capture frames. The crows took short flights cawing in their search for food. The dull sky colour became suddenly a pretty canvas by offering a light grey background to the flying crows. Their black silhouettes graced and otherwise dull sky. / / One individual flew closer to me and perched on a branch. Glancing downwards, she offered me her beautiful profile. “The eyes of this friendly horse captivated me. Keeping a short distance from my face, he looked at me intently with an inquiring eye. The afternoon sunlight was golden and bathed his coat in a sheer layer. The mane flew softly around his pretty face while he demanded to be given a carrot with steady hoof stamps in front of me. / / I had no carrots, yet a friendly pat on his velvety muzzle earnt me a swift amicable slurp from his soft lips. Artfully combining the classic Mandelbrot with a near perfect golden spiral. Wonders of nature, science, and math.
What words does one use to describe a man that has more forgiveness in his small toe than most of us have in our entire being? The words greatness, hero and enlightened one come to mind. Nelson Mandela will always be remembered for his greatness, forgiveness and total humility. He allowed all South Africans to once again have hope and pride in being a South African. We have a very beautiful country, with very beautiful people and once reverse racism has ended, we will truly have peace for all and a land for all.
UF 5.1; my own gradients / This was actually a piece that I did while taking an online class in using masking in Ultra Fractal (at the Visual Arts Academy online). I really, really love the way it came out! Best use I ever found for the Mandelbrot shape! (just my own humble opinion, lol!) And while I don’t have but a few of my fractals framed and kept for myself, I do have a copy of this one framed in a silver frame, and it looks really nice that way!
