Ah the smoker. What a bum deal he gets. Can’t do it inside, can’t do it in certain places outside. / But it looks so relaxing. / This stolen moment is one of my favourites. He was just sitting there thinking about whatever people taking 5 minutes from the hustle think about.

While my scanner is on the blink I’ve been going through some of my photos taken while in Shanghai, China in 2006 and found a few with potential. I don’t think I’ll upload too many as photography isn’t one of my strong points, but it is fun to see what you can do with an image in photoshop. This one was taken while in a river traffic jam, our driver was a real character!
Mixed media. Originally, this began as a ball point pen sketch on piece of white sketch paper, but soon snowballed to include 3 colors of marker, 2 colors of charcoal pencil, and some judicious use of graphite. Essentially, I guess this is all about that ‘holy spirit’ ... whatever that means (to you). Dig? Original: SOLD

Cyanotype of Lucky Strike #16. 4×5 neg captured with an antique Graflex Speed Graphic. (for those interested, a cyanotype is a print made by painting the solution directly onto paper, contact printing the negative by exposing it to sunlight and developing it in water. It is the ‘greenest’ of all photographic processes.)
Hi Guys, maybe you’ve noticed that I was absent for a while. I had a lot to do, going back and forth to the unemployment office, completing several commissions one of which is on the cover of the next issue of Painter Magazine (#29). Also networking with people like photographers who are willing to work to gether with me etc etc etc. So finally I had some time for some free work and found this wonderful portrait of this vietnamese old man with such charater that I just had to paint him, all those nice wrinkles in his face, just perfect. But somehow the original photo was a bit to static, I really wanted to viewer to have this feeling of him coming to live in this painting. So I played around with the fact that he had a sigaret in his mouth and by adding smoke to the painting he really came to live as he just blew out some smoke through is nostrels. Hope you like it ;-) Odwin
