Ok, so here’s the thing. I’ve been competing at a site called Digital Image Cafe for about 15 months now, and in the course of that time I’ve won a few prizes. I’ve got two boxes here with PC versions of Corel Paint Shop Pro PHOTO XI ....and can’t actually spare the space or ram on my computer to run it. Plus, my husband has this bad habit of throwing things out that are sitting around gathering dust….lucky I’m still here, actually! I’d hate for them to be wasted. Here’s what I propose: If anyone here wants to have one of these, I’ll give them both away…..post a photo here to prove how much you need it…..I’ll ask some of my friends to help me judge. The photos have to be loaded into Redbubble and for sale. To link it to here, go to the photo you want to share, right click on it, then go to properties. Drag your mouse over the url where it says Location, and make sure you get it all, including the ending extension, in most cases jpg, then add an exclamation mark at the start and the end ! / Paste that into the comment, and you should see your photo. Competition will end on Feb 29, 7pm Eastern STANDARD time – AUS, (not daylight saving time) and I’ll post them anywhere in the world, surface mail….no correspondence will be entered into, so don’t bmail me about this, put all your questions and photos here, please. I’m looking for creativity, but you also need to show that you don’t have a decent editing program….which is why you need this one. Feel free to tell all your friends

I wrote this a while ago with the intention of starting a new series of paintings on the Wizard of Oz….the idea is still there… I hope to begin a new painting/series soon on the subject. What I have written here, is the unfolding of the research work on my subject…it is important that I gain a deep understanding or insight into my subject, as well as preparing the visual side of things, i like to get a feel for it spiritually, or at least have an empathy with/for my subject/s. I read different editions of the story itself, and look at as many different illustrations as possible, rewatch the movie a few times, and listen to any music associated with it…for example the tracks from the movie, as well as things like Elton John’s and Katie Noonan’s versions of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and eminem’s Yellow Brick Road and Raine Maida – Yellow Brick Road and anything else i can find associated with the imagery of the story… Somewhere over the Rainbow by Judy Garland / Somewhere over the Rainbow Eva Cassidy / Somewhere Over the Rainbow by Kamakawiwo / Fields of Gold Eva Cassidy

subject: This drawing was inspired by a dream I had a few nights ago, in which I was walking through a park at night and came across a naked man sleeping under a maple tree. There was more to the dream than I’ve drawn, but the key symbols and their meanings according to dreammoods.com are as follows. NIGHT: To have a dream that takes place at night, represents some major setbacks and obstacles in achieving your goals. There are some issues in your life that you are facing that are not too clear. You should put the issues aside so you can clear your head before coming back to it. PARK: To dream that you are at a park, represents a temporary escape from reality. It indicates renewal, meditation, and spirituality. It is also an indication of a readjustment period after a serious personal conflict or an ending of a passionate affair. MAPLE TREE: Balance, promise, practicality. NAKED MAN: If seeing a naked person in your dream disgusts you, it might signify anxiety about discovering the naked truth about that person or situation. It may also foretell of an illicit love affairs, loss of prestige and scandalous activities. On the other hand, if you do not have any problem with another’s nudity, then it implies that you see through people and accept them for who and what they are. SLEEP: To see others sleeping, is often a reflection of yourself and your own unconscious mind. It is indicative of how you may not be alert or informed about a particular situation. It may also beckon renewal and new beginnings. (I am moving to Melbourne in a few weeks.) medium: graphite on 300gsm medium tooth paper. size: 42×59.4cm (A2) currently listening to: Secret Garden by Bruce Springsteen

“Birchwood” is the newest addition to the Empty Studio collection, and is also an Ink Wash-off on plain paper…I am really enjoying the challenge to create with few supplies and from unusual materials, while my studio is being renovated, and may continue to do it from time to time…the collection is growing…see the others in the series below Fountain Pen Ink Wash-Off and poster paint on plain paper Often you must have seen them / Loaded with ice a sunny winter morning / After a rain. They click upon themselves / As the breeze rises, and turn many-coloured / As the stir cracks and crazes their enamel. / Soon the sun’s warmth makes them shed crystal shells / Shattering and avalanching on the snow-crust / Such heaps of broken glass to sweep away / You’d think the inner dome of heaven had fallen..excerpt Birches…Robert Frost.
Nothing left or almost nothing in The empty Studio, but I have posted quite a few other works, which I am holding back while the installation is going on, and when I can’t paint at all, so there still will be something for you to see..it just occurred to me that these posts are a lot like a blog…hmm…the girl is the same as in “Darling It’s You”...she is now evoking my idea of the meaning of the song “Norwegian Wood”, embodying the spirit of the lyrics…the girl in the song is mysterious….the lyrics subject to many different interpretations.. / This is the first time I have tried this technique which I made up on the spot today…I’m in love with it and hope I remember what I did next time.... Enjoy the song…link below Inks on Arches Paper I once had a girl, or should I say, she once had me… / She showed me her room, isn’t it good Norwegian wood? / She asked me to stay and she told me to sit anywhere, / So I looked around and I noticed there wasn’t a chair. / I sat on a rug, biding my time, drinking her wine, / We talked until two and then she said: “It’s time for bed” / She told me she worked in the morning and started to laugh. / I told her I didn’t, and crawled off to sleep in the bath / And when I awoke, I was alone, this bird had flown / So I lit a fire, isn’t it good Norwegian wood. THE BEATLES MUSIC
Well the Empty Studio is still pretty empty, so I decided to continue adding new works to the series…my ink supplyis running low, but guess what, I have a huge art supply store right at the end of my street, so I can always buy more…actually I am really enjoying working with limited media…it takes me right back to when I used to invent all sorts of techniques…this one is newly minted today. Ink on Arches Paper Think about who you are today…are you whole, or do you see yourself as broken into little pieces…are you the one behind the confessional, or are you the listener?. If I cannot forgive myself / For all the blunders / That I have made / Over the years, / Then how can I proceed? / How can I ever / Dream perfection-dreams? / Move, I must, forward. / Fly, I must, upward. / Dive, I must, inward, / To be once more / What I truly am / And shall forever remain..Sri Chinmoy.
I had very little time today, as the final installation in the Empty Studio is getting really close and I am busy getting the room ready…...but I had to stop to paint, and I did this moolit scene with fountain pen inks and Mean Streak…it was an experience, as MS is invisible and you can’t see what you are doing, but I love the final result which is loose and free Moonlight bends over the black silence, / Making it bloom to wild-flowers of sound / That only green things can hear. / A wind sprawls over an orchard, / Frightening its silent litany to sound. / A thread of star-light has fallen to this tree / And curls among its leaves, tangling them to silence. . . . / Standing amidst these things, Beloved, / We feel the words our hearts cannot form......Maxwell Bodenheim
