  • Convict Lake
    by steveberlin

    US$4.48–US$102.60

Convict Lake is located along Highway 395 in the Eastern High Sierra just southeast of Mammoth Lakes, and due west of Crowley Lake nestled right up against Mount Morrison. The Lake has a similar appearance to Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada in that the water has a greenish tint surrounded by a mountain range. This one photograph was taken using super high contrast film with a polarizing filter to bring out the colors of the water. One of the many things to do around the lake is hike up into the John Muir Wilderness, fish on the lake and paddleboating. The lake was named after an incident in 1871, where a group of convicts escaped from prison in Carson City. A posse, led by Sheriff Robert Morrison, encountered the convicts near the head of what is now Convict Creek. Morrison was killed in the encounter, and Mount Morrison was named after him. (source Wiki – Convict Lake). This is one of three photographs from a series I have in my portfolio about Convict Lake, Mammoth Lakes area, CA.

  • June Lake Loop
    by steveberlin

    US$4.43–US$101.08

June Lake is located north of Mammoth and is well known for its fishing each year and spectacular colors each fall season. Highway 158 is a scenic drive and passes by four lakes which are all very nice to photograph: June Lake, Gull Lake, Silver Lake and Grant Lake. This photograph was taken near Boulder Lookout. Many of the cottonwoods and aspens will change colors into bright orange, yellow, and pink-red and mix nicely with all the pine trees. The Sierra Nevada Mountain range shows nicely in the background.

  • Tufa
    by steveberlin

    US$3.99–US$91.20

Mono Lake is truly an experience to visit and photograph. You can photograph it in black and white for crazy moods or in color for astonishing efffects. The rock structures which stand together and lace the lake are known as tufa and the water in the lake is one of the most salt-filled water lakes in the world. These tufa towers are calcium-carbonate spires formed by the interaction of freshwater springs and water leads and the alkaline in the lake. Mono lake is located north of Mammoth Lakes and June Lake and east of Lee Vining along Highway 120. More info on the lake: (taken from google sources) / Throughout its long existence, salts and minerals have washed into the lake from Eastern Sierra streams. Freshwater evaporating from the lake each year has left the salts and minerals behind so that the lake is now about 2 1/2 times as salty and 80 times as alkaline as the ocean. Mono Lake is a majestic body of water covering about 65 square miles. It is an ancient lake, over 1 million years old—one of the oldest lakes in North America. It has no outlet. (rescanned for proper color) Taken with a Canon Elan, 20mm lens, polarizing filter for reds, 4:30pm fall.

  • Winter Sunset
    by chris Whitney

    US$4.16–US$95.00

Mammoth, California / Canon Elan 7 camera and Provia 100 film I packed my camera and tripod and clipped on my cross-country skis to head to this spot along the trail. I shot the landscape as the setting sun cast weak light on the mountains. Not such as wonderful shot, and I packed the camera realizing that the view was worth the effort, even without the spectacular light. / As I prepared to leave, the sun had set and the purple and blue colors of the sky became magnificent. I reached for my camera and took this image, packed up, and then headed down the trail in darkness.

  • Elephant humour Asian elephant (Baby) Amazingly, Asian elephants are more closely related to the extinct woolly mammoth than to the African elephant. The elephant’s tusks are elongated teeth (upper incisors) and tend to be smaller in Asian bull elephants than in the African. The four grinding teeth (molars) wear out and are replaced by new teeth from the back of the jaws; the elephant gets through six sets of teeth during its lifetime. Where they live India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia and Southern China / Habitat Mountains and forest What they eat Vegetation, fruit, twigs, small branches, bark and roots IUCN status Endangered !
