Endangered Dugongs, or sea cows, were often perceived as mermaids by superstitious sailors because of their flattened fluke tails. Cutting swathes through the aquatic vegetation as they graze in herds, their distribution is closely related to their main source of food, seagrass. The ‘Fantasea Collection’ wildlife design portrays the beauty of the peaceful & shy Dugongs grazing the seagrasses, graceful swimmers with a chirpy call earning them the nick name of the ‘sea canary’. Aristotle once said the elephant was “the beast which passeth all others in wit and mind”. Unfortunately, they are now increasingly threatened by poaching and human intrusion into their habitat. The original artwork measures 19×12.5 inches and was created with ink pen and liquid copper leaf, with a little bit of colored pencil work around the eye.
