This is my new Mamiya C33 (TLR), a Japanese camera from the 60’s. I decided to buy it (a Medium Format camera) for the higher resolution in the dark room – It hasn’t needed it’s battery’s changed for about forty years because the camera’s spring loaded! Here’s some shots of it’s exterior and viewfinder: / / I’m don’t know if the shots I took with it will actually develop properly because the camera’s fairly beaten up. My fingers are crossed!

I think there is a point in every budding photographer’s life where one takes stock of one’s gear, thinks “holy christ!” and decides to share it with the world. I am at one of those points. Behold! Taken with the 450D and the 28-105 f3.5-4.5 USM II (obviously not present in the shot).

Parallax Error!- / / When composing my shots through the viewfinder of my recently acquired Mamiya c33 (a twin lens camera), I experience what I think is called the Parallax error. Basically I inadvertently crop the final negative because the perspective I see through the top lens (the viewfinder lens) is about five centimeters above the film chamber lens. This is only a problem for macro photography when the Parallax error is very obvious. My only solution right now, is to wind my tripod up about five centimeters, so the bottom lens occupies the space where the top lens was. If I want to tilt the anlge of the camera when composing however, this doesn’t work, because the bottom lens isn’t in line with the top one when wound up five centimeters. I’ve also tried using a length of string pulled taught between the subject and the bottom lens to try and frame it up, but this leaves a margin for error too! If anyone has any information on solving Parallax error through a more effective means, I’d be happy to hear from you! Thanks, Tom

Good to be here. Redbubble seems to be a FANTASTIC idea for photographers, artists, writers etc to get their work out there and seen by a potential WORLDWIDE audience! Even SOLD! Oh, the MAGIC of modern technology, eh?! So, what about me? Well, I’ve been taking pictures seriously for 27 years – ever since getting an Olympus OM10 for a joint birthday/Christmas present way back in 1982. Since then I’ve taken photos of virtually anything and everything, and have never REALLY specialised in any one field (something I kick myself for, if the truth be told! – I might have been a bit more successful!). However, areas I do enjoy in particular are all types of wildlife, and portraiture & glamour; although I’ve always simply enjoyed walking around and snapping things left right and centre. From the Olympus OM10, I moved through the OM30 and OM40, before switching to Minolta in 1988 (I just fancied a change). I dabbled with Bronica and Mamiya medium format but never really fell in love with the format, then in 1998 switched brands again to Nikon with an F50, then F70, F90, the all manual FM2, and F80… before finally taking the digital plunge in 2002 with a Minolta “bridge” camera. The purchase of a D70 at Christmas 2004 and the D40 last year bring me right up to date equipment wise… I have become more interested in glamour and portraiture over recent years, although I am still happy snapping away at virtually anything I find interesting – and especially the beauty of the natural world around us. Close-up and macro in particular have always fascinated me – a whole new world that we simply aren’t aware of until we actually LOOK! Anway, hopefully my Redbubble “portfolio” will reflect all this as I gradually build it up. I may also add some samples of my creative writing – screenplays, short stories and novel excerpts. That’s about it. Good to be on board – so LET’S GO!... P.S. You can also find me on Flickr, although of course a lot of the images will be the same as on here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/chrisharvey67/
