Mama Musa spent her childhood in Mozambique, but moved to Malawi and lived there many years where she raised several kids with her husband, including Musa (seen here). Recently, her husband died and she has moved back to Mozambique, her homeland, though she doesn’t speak the national language (Portuguese). She is of the Yao tribe.
This young Country Foal seems to be enjoying all the attention on his first Show with his Mama, as long as she’s right beside him. One of the exhibits at the Annual Agricultaral Fair held at Buskett Gardens, Malta, every 29th of June, on Mnarja Day.
cades cove in the great smoky mountains is notorious for the black bears. i am happy to say, this year has been an excellent year for viewing them. they have had food, and the park hasnt moved them out like they were caught doing last year. / yesterday morning shooting in the cove, i am upon a mama bear and her two cubs feeding in a cherry tree / this mama was after a particular branch, and she went up and down for it, finally chewing it off. / best if viewed larger
mama bear was crossing road, two bicyclers had passed earlier, so i thought a pretty cool shot of her crossing w/ them in background

This is a backyard photo of our dog Millie, AKA “Millie Willy Wonkas” everyone is game in my house. I don’t think she likes it very much but, she stays in a freeze position,oh if you only knew what my girls have made her do :] we love her.
Sometimes the little forest creatures are sick and this is where the faeries are at their best. They know every little secret, potion or magic spell to make them all better again! Mummy mouse is very worried but everything is going to be okay soon. The ladybug is there as well but very little people see it which is the whole idea, of course. They always are around if someone needs a babysitter. The story must be very exciting! Remember, if you ever get sick or wounded in a forest, the little faeries will take care of you when they find you (they always do).
Literally translated, 马马虎虎 (mǎmǎ hǔhǔ) means “horse horse tiger tiger”, but roughly means “so-so” or “mediocre”. Buy it for your Mandarin-speaking friends (maybe even Kevin Rudd!) and they’ll smile quietly to themselves.
I am sooooo pleased that I planted this Crab Apple tree nearly 20 years ago when we moved into our (then) brand new home. The tree has grown up to provide a wonderful haven for all our garden birds, large and small alike – winter and summer. Today it was full of fledgling birds – starlings, blackbirds, sparrows, (even a squirrel!) and cuties like this Great Tit (parus major) – all waiting, preening, dozing (hard life being a baby bird) and begging for food! Wish I could share it all with you but this one guy will have to serve as the ambassador for the cause! Difficult to get shots now the leaves are on the trees, but this one obliged! last sunday was in cades cove in the great smoky mountains. came upon a bear jam (everyone stops in middle of road and gets out of car to check out bear!) / this Huge mama was with one of her cubs, along side the road / she found this stump, and didnt really care we all were fairly close, she was after the termites. / unfortunately for her, she has been tagged twice, due to humans causing her to react. if she goes after another and the park finds out…they will kill her. / its time the humans are held accountable for their actions towards these animals, after all we are in Their Home, not our’s. as much as i hated to do it, i did have to lighten this up some due to some dense woods and a cloudy day, im still sick about it! lol

I’ve always loved Margaret Widdemer’s poem, “The Watcher.” I’ve coupled it with an image I took of a steeple of a very old church in Houston, Texas. I hope that those who have suffered the loss of a mother will find comfort in this photo. My mother is still alive and I am grateful for her; I created this image for those whose mothers are no longer with them and who suffer loneliness, especially during the holidays and on birthdays and anniversaries of death.

When I posted “For Mark, an American soldier, who gave his life in Iraq,” I didn’t realize that it would not print well as a card, so I’m adding this image of the same poem by Kim Graham and a different dragonfly photo to accommodate those who would like a copy of this in card size. 100% of proceeds from sales will go to the Mark W. Graham Foundation. According to the foundation’s official website, “The Mark W. Graham Foundation is a non-profit organization which provides support for young people of character and military families in crisis. It honors the legacy of Mark Graham, a fallen soldier whose strength of character and gift of service to his country are an inspiration to all who knew him. Mark was a Lafayette, La., native and his death opened the community’s eyes to the reality of war and the sacrifice soldiers make in their fight to keep our country free. He was married to Stephanie for a little more than a year when he died. Mark was 22 years old.

Mother.Culture Page _Support in a mother’s immediate family is crucial to success. If one member is not on board the breastfeeding relationship becomes vulnerable. This portrait also touches on the “family bed”. Western Culture has told us that sleeping with our children is bad in every way. I challenge this way of thinking with depicting the family bed as a sanctuary, and to be reassessed by western culture.
