The little boxes cut in the rock in the foreground are old saltpans. This is where the Maltese used to make salt by pouring seawater in the pans, let it dry and gather the salt. It’s a labour intensive way of producing salt. Image was HDR post-processed. Best viewed large. Original photograph of Peachie was done with the Nikon D40x and the 18-135mm Nikon lens. Peachie was entirely hand-painted digitally with the Wacom Intuous 4 tablet in Photoshop with brushes from Obsidian Dawn.

When I visit Mary (in Malta) she always makes me fresh orange juice. She loves her birds. She still feeds the pigeons and some stray cats. This friday she has become 89! For this photo I also used posteredges, but i am not sure if i like it. (better than the original)

House in the capital city of Malta, Valletta. Post processed in HDR. Took 3 bracketed photos. In Photomatix I processed the 3 pictures in HDR. Back to Photoshop I moved the darker photo over the HDR and got out the HDR layer as I had a horrible over exposure from the lamp. Hope you like the result. Any comments, positive or critical would oblige. Canon S3 IS handheld.

My friend, Sheila, and I bought our puppies from the same woman. Sunshine and Bitsy were born on the same day, but from different litters. They have been best friends from day one! On this particular day, Sheila’s daughter was getting home from her college photography class & she tossed a film box (I know. – Film…What’s that???) to the pups to play with. They had a ball with it!!

This is the Maltese Edible Snail – Cantareus apertus. A once very common land Mollusk. Mercilessly hunted (gathered) for food as it is locally regarded as a delicacy ( like escargots), and poisoned by farmers who consider it a pest. A Hermaphrodite. It lays its eggs (between 40 and 60) in a hole it digs itself in the soft loose ground ( like Turtles, Tortoises, Aligators, Crocodiles etc.) It Hibernates inside rubble walls and under loose stones during the Summer months to preserve its moisture.

This is our little girl, Sunshine, and the puppy next door, Ollie. They are both Maltese…about 2 years old…and best friends! They were roughhousing by our front door when I took this picture.

This is our puppy, Sunshine, dancing like Snoopy (from the Peanuts comic strip) as my friend dangled a treat above her head. This picture makes me smile every time I look at it! I can’t find the original file of this print & am having to upload a smaller one, but as much as I love this picture…smaller is better than not at all!

Placed in Top Ten in Happy Haven’s “March Avatar Challenge” March 4, 2009. Peachie loves this fake fuzzy throw … it was draped across the back of the sofa and once she was lifted up to the sofa cushions, she climbed up over the overstuffed pillows and nested in the fur. It was a cold, cold day and she finally found just the right spot for her afternoon nap!! Image taken with the Nikon D40x, the 18-200mm lens on January 2nd.
