This image was captured at Marsaxlokk, a quaint little fishing village in Malta. The water was a little murky and kind of greasy, no doubt caused by the diesel from the boats. This has probably caused the paint-like effect that seems prelevant in this image. I tweaked the brightness and colour saturation in photoshop but otherwise this picture is pretty much as is! It was a sunny day and that helped the colours to come out nicely..
Vittoriosa, Malta. The Marina. Summer has slowly faded away making way for Autumn. The summertime activity is over and the boats lie at rest safely in their moorings, but neither forgotten nor neglected. The high clouds shield the Sun and gently informs us of the coming of winter. The milder weather is welcomed by many. The Summer heat will soon be forgotten but missed by those who live by and for it. 4 copies of a single hand-held image taken with an Olympus evolt E-330. Processed at 1/3 EV stops and merged together with the original in Photomatix Pro 3.
The little boxes cut in the rock in the foreground are old saltpans. This is where the Maltese used to make salt by pouring seawater in the pans, let it dry and gather the salt. It’s a labour intensive way of producing salt. Image was HDR post-processed. Best viewed large. A night shot of an alley in Vittoriosa, Malta. This town was the residence for the Knights of Malta before they built Valletta. Vittoriosa is one of my favorite shooting grounds. One day I decided to give it a try at night. I liked this alley the minute I saw it. Problem was that all street lighting was yellow. Still I went ahead, set up my tripod and took a few shots. Back on my computer, I didn’t like the yellowish cast. So I desaturated and painted back the yellow on that one street lamp at the bottom of the alley. Nikon D70 / Nikkor 18-70 f/3.5-4.5G
Very beautiful and artistic photo of fireworks at Siggiewi. / Although taken after midnight, in the dark, the colours are fantastic. You cannot miss this. Photographing these tiny creatures isn’t my style. However, while in my back garden with the camera, I saw this little fellow buzzing over the lavender bush. I extended the zoom to its longest focal length, closed in and shot him a few times. Except for a bit of cropping, this photo is being presented ‘as-is’. I liked the way the clouds reflected onto the mirror facade of this tall tower building. The blues set it off for me – really like these shades of blue and the softness of the fluffy white clouds gave it an almost surreal feeling for me. / This was taken in St Julian’s, Portomaso – Malta Oct 2007.
This young Country Foal seems to be enjoying all the attention on his first Show with his Mama, as long as she’s right beside him. One of the exhibits at the Annual Agricultaral Fair held at Buskett Gardens, Malta, every 29th of June, on Mnarja Day.
This is one of my favourite creations to date. To me this epitomizes the colours and charm of the Maltese islands. Maybe I’m being fanciful…. or am I? Thanks all for looking! x Best viewed larger….

The Maltese islands have a significant number of natural caves which were once inhabited by fishermen. / The limestone caves with large flat rocks to clamber about on high up on the headland have fantastic texture. The colours are incredibly beautiful, clear, azure water which is amazingly deep. The Blue Grotto was used for a scene of the 2004 film Troy, starring Brad Pitt.
The Cittadella, also known as the ‘Gran Castello’ is a small fortified town situated on a promontory sited over the City of Victoria in Gozo, Malta’s sister Island. Before the arrival of the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem it was also known as ‘Gaulcouis Civitas’, possibly after the Roman Settlement. Archaeological finds have indicated that this naturally defended hilltop had hosted small settlements as early as the Bronze Age. / Because of its central location, this small settlement grew to become the administrative center of the Island during Phoenician and Roman times. / The Medieval Township at the Cittadella is documented to have thrived up to the 16th Century. / When the Knights came to Malta, they continued to use the Cittadella as a place for shelter for the population in times of trouble. In 1551, the Island was attacked by Moslem Arabs and the entire population was carried away into slavery. / Military developments in the 16th Century abandoned the Township and transformed it into a purely military outpost. / The Architectural heritage is made up of almost intirely military structures, however some important architectural monuments were constructed in the Baroque style. A fine example is the Cathedral which was constructed in the 17th Century and has housed the Bishop’s seat since 1864.
