Dora and Mallow were “rescued” when Mallow (short for marshmallow for obvious reasons) was a couple of days old. Dora had been very ill treated. The intention was to find good homes for them both. Need I add that 2 years later they are still important members of the household!!! Having come from hell to paradise Dora never ceases to repay with intense fidelity and an impeccable personality..

From a sketch that I did, whilst i was in Australia. / From a photo of a frog that, I believe, lives in Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary (Gold Coast, Australia). Painted in acrylics and mostly composed of dozens of successive ink washes. I’m rather pleased with the overall effect. I just can’t decide whether I want ot put in a background or not. What do you think?

Underrated and overlooked, the simple little mallow is an uncultivated specimen that grows prolifically along the roadsides and ditches everywhere. When nothing else is in bloom, this pretty and delicate little “weed” adds color to the environment and I like it – weed or not! Its perfect heart shaped petals, paper thin and delicate, offer so much promise even in tough conditions!

The Mallow plant which grows in the cracks in the path in my garden are still very much in flower- they get trodden on and at the moment are still sodden from yesterdays downpour-and still survive – I captured these with bubbles from the rain still clinging on!! This proves even a common garden plant can look beautiful with a gentle wash down!
