On a frosty june morning I found myself to the top of a local range near Geranium in the Souther Mallee looking at one of the most brilliant sunrise’s I have ever seen. The warm glow of the sun across the clouds and the shifting light made me forget about the the freezing temperatures I was working in.

A hot summers day in the southern Mallee sees the development of a masive system of thunderstorms. Sitting almost stationary they unload the moisture they have collected during the day. Up on a high hill I witnessed this massive shaft of rain with strong out flow winds and spectacular lightning. Was truly an awesome sight.

The Regent Parrot Polytelis anthopeplus monarchoides is listed as an Endangered Species in NSW, and is also listed as vulnerable under commonweatlh legislation. It breeds along the RIver Red Gum forests of the Murray and Wakool River and forages in adjoining mallee areas.
