Mallacoota lake, just after sunset

This beauty (Pelecanus conspicillatus) sat and posed for me at Mallacoota Inlet for a few minutes while I shot off a few frames. The rich blue of the water and the reflection perfectly compliment its elegant pose. For more pictures of this area check out my Croajingolong gallery. Me and my buddy Chris walked for two days from Mallacoota in Victoria’s far east to get to this spot which is Cape Howe the coastal border between NSW and Victoria in Australia. Smack bang on the border is the shipwreck of the Iron Prince and a rapidly deteriorating border cairn. The area is surrounded by a flat dune field with a sea revealed rocky base. To our surprise there was quite a vigourous little spring nearby which if we realised how bad our water situation would be over the next few days we would of taken more advantage of. With all this at hand it was an obvious spot for an early lunch, while packing this up I finally noticed more of the macro landscape of our spot. ‘Honeycomb’ is a photo of the rock I sat on while eating my lunch. As a youngster our family’s annual holiday used to be at Mallacoota and one of our favourite spots for an evening BBQ which we always had to ourselves was sandy point. In later years our spot got discovered and became over run with motor boats and visitors the solitude of previous years a memory. The way of the world. Beautiful Mallacoota – an image shot on film a few years back.
Taken in January while on holiday at Mallacoota. Putting this up with an aim to increase my activity on here and maybe spark myself back into feeling inspired.

Mallacoota Inlet, in Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. The light in this is rather subtle, and I think it’s suited to the serene autumn afternoon. Six years ago this was a scene of bare sand, tidal washes and coloured rocks, as the ocean waves battered the sand bar that forms the ocean inlet. To our astonishment on a recent return trip, a whole ecosystem has emerged inside, complete with extensive vegetation and bird life, including Ibises (best seen when viewed large). Nature can certainly work quickly! Nikon D300 / Nikkor 17-55mm DX lens
Landscape scenes from Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania and Queensland, Australia. Contrasting moods, seasons and light from travels through this wonderful country.
This group of beautifully coloured rocks is on an ocean beach near Mallacoota Inlet, Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. Each beach along this coast has its own extraordinary array of unique rock formations, some of which I’ve shown you before ( The Gauntlet) A fast shutter speed was used to freeze the water movement and reveal the double reflection in the wet sand.
