  • Late afternoon, smell of Italian herbs, garlic and tasty pizza, everything so peaceful and tranquil, you only hear the waves at the lake and quick steps in the narrow street… An evening in Malcesine, a lovely village at the shore of Lago di Garda (Garda Lake), Italy. / Taken already in August 2001, the photograph I originally got from the lab was all but perfect and quite disappointing: white sky, black foreground, no details, simply too much contrast. But I couldn’t forget the lovely scene… When I got a film scanner in 2007 (finally!), this was one of the first film frames I have scanned. And there was really much more on the negative! Enjoy the atmosphere :) /

  • View of Lago di Garda (Lake Garda) from the castle of Malcesine. A silhouette of the castle walls -as well as that of cypresses, so typical for Mediterranean!- is visible in the foreground. Taken in August 2001. Canon EOS 500N, 28-80mm. Post-processing: retouch, sharpening, color. Click here to see more photos from Lago di Garda:

  • Just love the way these hanging plants give this old building so much character, who else thinks it looks like treebeard… The location was the Italian Lakes, Malcesine.

  • Tricky shot from the back of a swaying ferry boat! Malcesine borders the following municipalities: Avio, Brentonico, Brenzone, Ferrara di Monte Baldo, Limone sul Garda, Nago-Torbole, Riva del Garda, Tignale, and Tremosine. Malcesine lies on the shores of Lake Garda, the most frequented and biggest lake in Italy. Its most prominent landmark is the Castello Scaligeri, which has 13th-Century fortifications and an older medieval tower. Remnants of an Etruscan tomb have been found within the castle walls. The castle was fortified by the della Scala family who ruled the region throughout the 13th Century. In 1786, Goethe was arrested on suspicion of being a spy after he was caught drawing sketches of the castle. Behind Malcesine rises the 1750m Montebaldo. Visitors today can reach the summit of Montebaldo by the funivia, or cable car. Montebaldo is a popular venue for various mountain sports, including mountain biking, skiing and paragliding.
