  • One of the most beautiful beach in Maui.

  • This image was layered and stitched from 50 exposures on my completely amateur Canon Rebel xTi. FIFTY! Geeze, that was a lot of button-pushing in a short moment. Seriously, I turned the little dial three clicks between each shot as the sun was sinking super-fast! I am pleased with the results. Whew.

  • The Wedding Beach at Makena. / Once you find this spot, you will return time and again to enjoy the unsurpassed beauty you find here. In the morning hours, the water will be all shades of blue and turquoise and I believe this is one of the most beautiful beaches on Maui, Hawaii / Nikon D-60 AF-S NIKKOR 18-55mm Featured POLYNESIAN CONNECTION ~ Jan – Feb – Mar 2009 / Featured in HAWAII ~NA AU’ group ~ 21 April 2009 Nearly 500 views ~ December 2009 Mahalo for coming to visit one of my most favorite photos of Maui. Such a beautiful place, it is good to come and visit in the morning for the light over the water is magical. Aqua, turquise, deep blue with white waves crashing on the shore. Once you have been here, you will never forget this perfect little bay that has been nicknamed the “Wedding Beach.”. / It is simply sublime…

  • It is a rare occasion when there is no wind blowing the palms, and there are enough clouds over the ocean to create a dramatic sunset at this location. I spent a week’s worth of evenings in this area before the conditions set up perfectly. Technically this is a series of 5 long exposures layered. I was using a 10mm lens on my little Canon XTi. It worked. This beach is in an area where there will soon be plenty of new construction, sadly. The “old” Maui is slipping away, and it breaks my heart. I hope images like this will preserve the pristine flavor for future generations.

  • The sun sets over Kanaloa, the sacred Kaho’olawe Island. / View from Makena / Maui Hawai’i / From my collection: Eye of Kanaloa This is a stitched composite of two images taken at the same location at the same time, one above the other, to give you a better view of the ocean and sky with this lovely pastel sunset. Copyright © Sharon Mau 2009 / All Rights Reserved Canon Digital Rebel XTi / 15 December 2008 ‘Alalakeiki Channel / ‘Au’au channel / Eye of Kanaloa The Eye of Kanaloa symbol generates subtle energy, known as “ki” in Hawaiian. This energy can be used for healing, for stimulating physical and mental faculties, and for many other purposes. Most people can sense the energy, which may feel like a tingle, a current, a pressure or a coolness, by holding the hand, fingers, cheek or forehead near the symbol. By itself, the symbol will help to harmonize the physical, emotional and mental energies of a room or other location. The energy may be accessed more directly by meditative gazing or by holding the symbol near something that needs harmonizing. The symbol can also amplify and harmonize other energy sources by placing it behind or in front of the source. Aloha International 2001 ~ Return of the Warriors / Uncle Charlie … Kaho’olawe Island

  • Maluaka is a place on Maui where there is a comforting daily cloud cover reaching out from the high slopes of Mt. Haleakala and extending toward the island of Kaho’olawe . Without this protective cloud, the scorching equatorial sun would be relentless. I noticed this sunset beginning to happen, and I grabbed my gear and sprinted to the rocky Maluaka coastline just in time to make a nice capture.

  • Dawn awakens over vast Makena Beach, captured on Maui in the Hawaiian Islands. Located on Maui’s beautiful south shore, this beach (also known as Oneloa Beach and “Big Beach”) is a very popular spot and one of Maui’s best. As can be seen in this image, the beach is 2/3 mile long and 100 yards wide, hence the nickname “Big Beach”. Normally crowded, at 5am when I shot this I was the only soul around.
