No, i’m not being impatient :) / I’m just letting you know about a new group ! It’s called Make Up Your Mind If you are interested in having a bit of fun and entering some interesting new challenges that might be challenging…..please join up…. the hosts are About This Group When we were little, we were not allowed to play with lipsticks. / Some of you may have the memories that you played with it and then your mum found out about that. / Well, you shouldn’t use your mum’s expensive lipsticks for this group but you can use some old make-up products. / You can actually try using any products around you to create your works. / But you are not allowed to use any normal art materials. / Let’s recycle old/unwanted make-up products and create a beautiful master piece!! / No limit for uploading your works. Please read the rules here and / Join here if you feel so inclined, we would love you aboard! I believe this is an initiative of Angela Van Boxtel a member of red bubble, co-hosting this group, and also the lady behind the Mum2Mum exhibition at the Manly Art Festival…...this year she is behind the Make Up Your Mind Workshop (it’s on facebook, so you’ll need to be signed in to view this) OR just go here instead to the Creative Mums website and you’ll get a better idea of what this new group is all about too! This workshop is being run by my dear friend Midori Furze who is also the moderator of our new group and the one who started the group and invited me and the others to co-host it with her….i highly respect each and every one of the co hosts and they are great friends and artists in their own right…also they are artists with great big hearts Stay tuned for our Mothers Day Challenge / ......it’s The Mr Squiggle Challenge…..anyone not yet heard of Mr Squiggle, could be if you’re not an aussie…so see this Mr Squiggle video and this excellent informative article Mr Squiggle – A personal view by KRin Pender-Gunn) to learn a little more

I did already!! I made up my mind to do a painting of a lion using my bestest makeup products. Of course, when I went to use the lipstick, I found them all hard as rocks. Hmmmmm… Oh well. At least my other colours haven’t dried out completely, and of course, powders never dry out or go hard!!! Leo the Lion (such an original name, I know) was created for the “Mr Squiggle Challenge”: http://www.redbubble.com/groups/make-up-your-mind/challenges/4927-mothers-day-challenge-mr-squiggle in the group Make up your MInd Karin drew a scribble and we all have to use makeup and paint a picture. I really enjoyed doing this!! I so love drawing :D The products I used… mineral powder foundation, sparkly blush powder, mascara, lip liner, lipgloss (my lipsticks were all dead… hard as rocks), concealer, green concealer, eyeliner, eye colour stuff (squeezy sponge applicator ones). All painted and spattered onto A3 art paper. Here are a few piccies showing my totally professional process!!! / / Now you all have to go and have a go at this fun painting style… Even you MT and Samedog… I’m sure you have Mums or Sisters or girlfriends you can borrow from!!!

The amount of support I’ve had for my 2 latest works has been phenomenal, I can’t thank you enough. It’s always scary to put up your work and you hope people will like it, so it’s a big thrill when you can breathe that sigh of relief! Some of you may know that there is a bit of a story behind this painting / / and here is the story in pictures: / / Karin and Sal – Holidaying at Yamba 1968 (K age 3 yrs) / taken by Karin’s father John / / I painted this with no thought in mind for that very special holiday in Yamba. But when mum saw this painting, she straight away remembered this time, and dad sent me the photos.. here we are in mother and daughter attire..the dress patterns are different mum says, but the material is the same. I have one little memory from this time, of catching my first fish, but I couldn’t remember the rest of the time…seeing this, i think my painting must be a snapshot of our time, held there in my subconscious mind all this time…...i think things are being unlocked and coming out into my work these days….and it’s an exciting time. / You’ve also been incredibly supportive of Sweethearts this week, thank you everyone, so happy you like it, i so enjoyed creating this one: / There have been a lot of journals coming from my bubble here lately, some have been well attended, and others not so. Not sure why you like and are interested in some, but not others…but i’ll keep them coming, because i really enjoy doing them :) I wanted to let you all know that I’m trying something rather new on Sunday mornings here at Red Bubble. It’s called S.A.T. on Sun or Sunday Arts Talkback It will be run online from 10am til 12 noon on Sunday mornings, so we can grab a cuppa and brekky…and have a little real-time chat together about current art issues in the news, anything wierd and artsy that sparks your interest…......think radio talkback and you’ve got the idea… it’s open to guest speakers, and you can also make announcements then and there, if you have an event coming up…... like an exhibition or something cool you’re doing on the bub!!! So just contact me…...via the journal on Sunday (or by bmail if you have a guest lined up to talkback and offer their insight into arts topics or their background, etc.) and join me on Sunday Arts Talkback the next session will by Sunday 17 May, so stick it in your Diary :)
Beside the Seaside is for the Create an exhibition poster for “Make up Your Mind” exhibition WITH MAKEUP AND OTHER STUFF which is now open for entries. Voting will start for this challenge in 6 days. I created this on a substrate of brown paper, the dresses are from corrugated cardboard, and i’ve used some gingham for ribbon and pockets…. the other things i used were black boot polish for the hair, blue hair gel for the sea, plus blue nail polish for the water, along with white lipstick…. pink lipstick for the cheeks rouge and a brown tinted lip gloss to draw the legs and shade the faces…i used an eleliner pencil to do the eyes and lips, i have also used photoshop and some foundation for the shadows under their feet :) We were asked to create a poster to advertise the upcoming Make Up Your Mind Exhibition in Sydney at the Manly Arts Festival which we hope to go in…that will be in September. / / it kinda looks cute in a frame, i couldn’t help myself….don’t expect any sales from it though, just for presentation purposes of course :) Looking for inspiration, then check out these fantastic artworks on youtube created with makeup products! / Lipstick Painting Gwen Stefani / Lipstick Painting Angeline Jolie

For the group challenge “Make up Your Mind” The original is I didn’t do it
FEATURED – May 2009 in the Make Up Your Mind Group Here is my Makeup Your Mind Poster for the Manly Arts Festival. / I had so much fun doing this, loved the challenge of using your makeup as it was so funny, as I soon discovered my makeup is a very limited palette! Mainly consisting of neutrals, browns, peachy tones and grey, so I rushed out and shopped around for some cheap makeup to add to my colour palette. What surprised me and I really loved was the softest of the tones, no matter how much i put on it was very subtle. / My palette consisted of:- / Lots of coloured eye shadows / Several shades of lipsticks / Lip liners / Eyeliner and eyebrow pencils / Natural Ivory Foundation / Blusher in many shades / White French nail polish. / Lastly I photo shopped the Text. / Whew! This is good for me, because I am just learning Photoshop and I don’t have a lot of time after, my job, family and life commitments. / I decided to do a family scene at Manly because as a child a grew up in Sydney, and have a lot of wonderful memories of going to Manly. I mostly remember it was a fun lively place, with lots of families at the beach, surfing, swimming and relaxing. I also remember there were a lot of Pine trees along the promenade, so I tried to capture some of these feelings. / Hope you like the results as I was happy with it and had fun.
Created for the Create an exhibition poster for Make up Your Mind exhibition challenge. “Creativemums.com is a membership free network for females with a creative vision.” Hand drawn and painted in Corel Painter; outlines in pen and colours in watercolour. This is a combination of a little Art Nouveau and my own style. I tried to include a few of the Womanly endeavours of Creativemums such as painting, writing/journalism. I also included one of my poems in the drawn book. I Miss You / I sit so high upon a tree / And sing a song for thee, / A song of love, / A song of glee, / If only to have you here with me. / —Anne Hale Featured in Digital Brushstrokes group. / Featured in Make Up Your Mind group. © 2009 Anne Hale. / /
