  • A baseball is captured mid-flight against a perfect summer sky.

  • The last of the sun before two big storms moved into Oregon and caused major wind and flood damage. Shortly after taking this picture, the first of the two storms moved in. The coast was hit the hardest with winds up to 129 mph (279 kph) and torrential downpours. The storms hit throughout the Pacific Northwest (Oregon and Washington). A short time after the first storm moved in, a bigger and more fierce storm rolled through causing even more damage to areas that were already flooded. A bad start to the winter season.

  • Romeo and Juliet at Melbourne Zoo Australia. / I have not seen this before, two very friendly Parrots of a different family. At first the close proximity of the Eclectus Parrot to the Major Mitchell’s Cockatoo I assumed to be one of a take over of the hollow in the tree but this was not the case . They were obviously pleased to be with each other rubbing beaks eventually., fascinating.!

  • aka Teensy’s cousin over the pond! This is a Great Tit chick, which by pure fluke I saw hopping around the tree outside my window, waiting for mum to return with some goodies. Looks like he needs a bath. Bailey’s Birdie Bistro does provide bathing as well as restaurant facilities for our wild birds and squirrels.

  • The First Major Archetype: / In the beginning there is nothing but Ocean, Chaotic Waters and Ice. Wax, ink and pigment

  • To be precise, Caleana major (Flying Duck Orchids) Australian native terrestrial orchids which grow in sandy alkaline heath-land on the east coast. The flowers are only ¾” (2cm) long, two flowers on a n 8” (20cm) stem and with only a single spear shaped leaf at ground level. The flowers of this species are actually upside-down to the normal orchid growth habit. Do you like their little pigtails? When disturbed, the flowers drop their heads, lift their tails and curl up. This is to trap any pollinating insect inside until released perhaps hours later or even overnight. Because of their small size and drab colouring they are difficult to find. This pair was discovered while I was hunting Sun Orchids. Lucky me! These li’l quackers were photographed in the wild, along the Ocean Drive Fire Trail in the Queen’s Lake Nature Reserve , at North Haven, NSW, Australia, on a beautifully overcast autumn afternoon. Visit my Aussie Wildflower collection in my BubbleSite for more native orchidian delights. Fuji S9600: Super Macro, f/5.6 @ 1/52sec, Manual focus, Tripod, Timer. / Lightroom 1.1 & Photoshop CS3. UPDATE: 31-08-08 / I have just printed this on Canon Photo Paper Plus Semi-gloss Satin and it came up a treat! UPDATE: 11-7-09 / This pair of ducks was awarded 3rd Place in the Australian Native Plants Group’s Native Terrestrial Orchids Challenge. Enjoy! WILDFLOWERS: ORCHIDS / (Click the links!) After i finished it, i realized his body is a bit too short, and Arnie says he looks like Marlon Brando, hee hee. Anyhoo, the original artist is Thomas Scully. This is called a painting (the original), but i have only been able to locate it in B&W. This is for a project that has been sitting on a back burner for many years

  • Photographed near St Helens, Tasmania. The first part of an article I have written on this plant follows: Waxlip Orchid Glossodia major The Waxlip Orchid (Glossodia major) is a harbinger of warmer weather and a welcome flash of colour in the bush after the drabness of winter. During springtime it is widespread in drier Tasmanian woodlands and grasslands in northern and eastern regions of the state and often after bushfires it presents an abundant and erratic display that is certain to delight. The orchid’s range extends beyond these island shores to many other parts of South-east Australia where the second Glossodia species, Glossodia minor, can also be seen. “Waxlip Orchid, Glossodia major ” was featured in the group Black with a hint of colour
