Picture taken in summer 2007 at my friend Patty-Lou’s summer house who was empty as she was fighting a breast cancer. Now she’s done with chemo and the tumor has been totally removed. She will be back this summer and this is the most fantastic news I ever heard. This work is dedicated to her, her husband and their two daughters.
At a 20-minute walk from my house and one of my favourite spots in my hometown, the Maison Melançon was built in 1787 on the south shore of Montreal, on the actual site of the Parc de la Promenade in Candiac. The town council has decided to buy it in 1968, and to use it as a meeting place for a ski-doo club and as a community center. This beautiful ancestral house has now become the local arts and culture center. taken in May around our friends village after our 2 hour long walk and many photo opps – this lovely cottage/barn is owned by a chap that has grown up in it, and farms still, he has just recently had electric, water and a phone installed – over the last 3 years – doucement, doucement!! Also until recently he still had earth flooring in the kitchen which as been remedied now – a very normal story around here! This type of house is also known as a Charentaise Long House :) and sometimes the shutters are painted in the typical blue Charante colour! This is the port of St- Jean de Luz (not far away from Biarritz) in the Basque Region, S.W. France. The Spanish Infante Marie-Thérèse used to live in that house – hence its name – with no permission to meet her future husband…the French king Louis XIV (le Roi Soleil), before their wedding in the little church of that same city in 1660.

At the Market Place (Grand Place), opposite the Town Hall, stands another of the remarkable historical Buildings of Brussels. The beautiful neo-gothic building with its many decorative statues is the “Maison du Roi” in French or “Broodhuis” in Dutch. It now harbours the historical City Museum. The Dutch name “Broodhuis” (i.e. bread house) clearly shows what the origins of this building were. In the beginning of the 13th century a wooden construction stood here. It was used by the bakers to sell their bread. In 1405 a stone building replaced the original wooden bread hall. When during the early 15th century the bakers turned to selling their products from house to house, the ancient bread hall began to be used more and more for administrative purposes by the Duke of Brabant, hence the French name “Maison du Roi”. /

another of the lost houses of Lezay – these were the back entrances to the houses that stand on the main road through the town, I didn’t have a lot of room as there is another house (well that is an exaggaration) behind me! canon 350d (before it was mine!) Featured in Natures Reclamation January 09
I loved this house for it’s not one, not two but THREE balconies, being a little passion of mine this made my day! The colours and shadows were amazingly glorious for a winters day! These houses have been here for over 150 years + and add such wonderful character to the port! Canon eos 400d sigma lens 70-300mm 26th December 2008
This quaint little place is in the small town of Fanjeaux, Languedoc. I first noticed the washing hanging up outside the house, only when I looked closer did I spot the rash of circles. I wonder who lives in a house like this…..
The Maison du Roi or King’s House is also known as the Breadhouse in Dutch. It stands in front of the Town Hall in Brussels Grand Place, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From Wiki In the 13th century the predecessor of the Bread House was a wooden building where bakers sold their bread in a covered market. Its Dutch name Broodhuis recalls this function. It was replaced in the 15th century by a stone building for the administration of the duke of Brabant. When the duchy fell to the Habsburgs, the Maison du Duc (Duke’s house) became the Maison du Roi (King’s house), the latter being the current French name of the building. Charles V rebuilt the building in a late Gothic style during his reign in the 16th century, similar to its appearance today. In 1873, the city entrusted architect Victor Jamaer to restore the battered structure in neo-gothic style. Gear: Nikon D80, AF-S NIKKOR 18-200mm 1:3.5-5.6 G ED
