The complete and real title is : “Poupée – InnerSelf”. I asked to myself : Stars… They bright the sky, our eyes, our mind & soul. They are inside of us. We always look for them, for these glimpses of lights and happiness. / Do we really know ourselves? / Do we realize that we have all of this inside of us? / What are we in fact? / As we don’t really look in the correct place, we don’t really know ourselves i decided to ‘almost’ delete the face. The Maiden, The Mother and The Crone From the original acrylic on 100cm x 100cm canvas. Metallic and glitter overlays… I started this mandala the week before one of my close girl friends was diagnosed with lung cancer and finished four months later – the week after she died. It was a hugely cathartic work and the three phases of the goddess reflect the changes in me over the years. I have been the warrior maiden; mothered my child and have entered into the spiritual crone phase of my life… This is a work in progress. Every year I add something to the picture as it reflects my journey through this life. Bright Blessings to all:) all rights reserved mt2008 !!

Original Creation Date: December 30th, 2006 The Snow Maiden, or Snegurochka, is an old Russian fairytale of an elderly couple that had the dream of having a daughter. One day, after a fresh snowfall, the couple fashioned a girl out of the snow and she magically came to life. But as the seasons changed from winter to spring, the Snow Maiden became increasingly sad. When summer came, the girl was in a deep depression. One day, while wandering the woods, the Snow Maiden came upon a group of girls. She began to hike with them until after dark, when the woods became colder and the girls built a camp fire to warm themselves by. Watching the girls jump over the camp fire one at a time, the Snow Maiden lept across the fire as well, but before she reached the other side of the fire she disappeared into little more than a watery mist. The symbolism of this piece is quite rich, and in further researches I found out that I ended up making relations between all the representations without consciously being aware of it. The Chemistry is about inner alchemy and how the power of transformation manifests itself through Will. That’s basically my version of the ancient illustrations on alchemy in which we see a dragon-serpent “wrapping” a maiden. In my version, for artistical reasons, I decided not to draw the serpent involving the maiden’s body, but putting her closer to the background, and showing her body changing according to the colors of the environment – which are the colors of the four elements. The serpent is a representation of the unconscious forces of Will. The maiden raises from a pond (the beginning of all things, regeneration, new birth) that has been formerly muddy and still (the dark green color at the edges), and now is made clear by the power of fire (strength, courage, will, passion), or the dragon. A bunch of monarch butterflies come out the pond. The butterfly is one of the symbols of the Gemini sign (Mercury) and the classical representation of regeneration and rebirth. The maiden’s hair turns first into green grass from which 3 lotus flowers (another symbol of rebirth) arise, and then into fire. The dragon’s head show itself among the profusion of hair. The four elements are clearly present, in images and colors: Fire (dragon’s head, the top of the picture, the color red), Earth (grass and leaves, the color green), Air (butterflies, the color yellow) and Water (the pond, the color blue). It’s part of our journey as human beings to face muddy waters throughout our life. But to remain stagnant in them is our choice. We all have the inner strength to being born again, to rebuild ourselves – we just need to accept the changes and look toward the future. The Shell Maiden / / I come from the rain of sky and sea, caught / on the web of a shoreline daisy, braced low / and spinning in carnival delight with the / kiss of Pacifica’s mist. I come from the company of driftwood and seashells, bleached white as a wedding train waiting to be worn. The waves roll like a wedding march / announcing the union of land and deep blue dreams. / They bring a dowry of tangled vines and sand dollar spines, / and my heart says YES to this sailors treasure. I come from the flutter of dry seaweed, / no longer rich with Oceana’s brine, and yet / adorning the beach with seafoam flare, / like rice and petals clinging to the foot of a runaway bride. Once again a collaboration with the amazing, J-Chans Designs (Model Mayhem #542467). This woman is amazingly talented. She designed the costume, the wig and did the makeup. I can’t wait to work with her again! And the incredibly gorgeous model is Elizabeth Maiden (Model Mayhem#401472) This is just a taste of more to come!!!! It was an incredibly successful shoot. And my first outdoor photo shoot in a long time at a very neat location. It’s an old building near an industrial park near my house which burned down a year or so ago. What’s left is a metal and concrete shell. It made for a great setting. I’m so happy about this shoot! Also see: / © Jessica Walker 2009
