  • after twisting my ankle in a freezing jungle waterfall, i took off my boots to ease the swelling, only for my boot to be used as a perch for this amazing butterfly. only the boot was a tad to heavy for the butterfly to lift and fly away with.

  • See my origami calendar Folded on June 21, 2008 and shot through a magnifying glass (as I only have a handhled camera without the fancy macro features – though I did use macro mode). Taken with an Olympus FE-220) A crane folded from a 3×3mm piece of trace paper The folding process and photo setup can be seen here And just for fun, I used this photo to create my new avatar (created on June 15, 2009) Here is the paper: / For a better idea of scale: / I didn’t videotape myself folding as linaji suggested, but just for fun here’s a preview of the origami surgery :P. • I was looking for subjects to Photograph in my Parents’ garden and was about to put my Camera away when my Mum reminded me that there was a nest of Paper Wasps just above the door of the grannyflat in their house. I climbed up on to a ladder and slowly moved toward the Wasps. They weren’t at all fazed by my presence. I fired a test flash and they didn’t seem to care at all. Once I knew that they were relatively calm, I was able to snap off a few shots. I didn’t stay too long though, as I didn’t want to find out if their patience would wear thin! This shot was by far the best one of the day.

  • My daughter was looking at a marble through a magnifying glass and I couldn’t help but notice how pretty the sun and clouds looked in the reflection.

  • “Viewed best enlarged” Two leaves on the steps of the restaurant we had lunch in, rich on colour and dappled with fresh rain…

  • It is a wonder world in the garden, in nature all together! Especially when it rained. The earth smells different, the flowers look brighter, the little diamonds the rain leaves in these droplets are such wonderful magnifying information centers. / These are droplets clinging to the stamen of the flower. I have red, pink and yellow Inca lilies. This stamen is from the pink variety. The yellow flowers’ stamen differs a bit from the other colours / Awesome, just awesome. Enjoy with me Canon EOS 450D / f 6.3 / 1/200sec / ISO 200

  • I know, “it’s just a leaf”... but in my mind, this is an amazing example of the new life that is born in the spring. This macro photo was captured with a Canon EOS 10D using a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro prime lens. The shutter speed was 1/60th sec at f/4. The camera’s ISO was set to 400. A Canon MR-14 Macro Ring Lite flash was mounted on the lens and used in Auto Mode #3. A Manfrotto tripod was used with a remote shutter release. • I don’t own a fancy camera; but from time to time I can still do something interesting by playing with tools that are not attached to the camera – lights, magnifying glass… Here I aimed to shoot a picture where the 5×5mm paper folded heart beneath the magnifying glass appears in focus while everything else is blurred with the help of some optical physics. I played with the zoom features in my camera a bit. I could have taken the image upclose, but that would not have created the same effect as taking from afar and zooming in. I had to position the camera in the right ditance, meanwhile having the lens within the camera in the right position to get what I wanted. Admittedly though I did blur the background more in photoshop, but the cosmo like effect (the heartbeat) inside the magnifying glass is real. And since the heart is seen through a magnifying glass it appears bigger here than it really is: Taken Nov. 8, 2009 with an Olympus FE-340.
