Mt. Bromo smolders uncomfortably close to the Indonesian metropolis of Surabaya on the island of Java. Bromo is the small, grayish cone to the left. Mt. Semeru, the highest mountain on Java, looms in the distance. The entire area is contained within the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park. The area is inhabited mainly by the Tengerese People, the last Hindus left on Java.

Death Valley National Park, USA / / The Ubehebe Crater system contains several volcanic craters, cinder cones and ash hills, all resulting from an explosive steam eruption approx. 2,000 years ago, when rising magma met an underground lake. Ubehebe is by far the largest crater, 2,400 feet in diameter and 500 feet deep and presents a very colorful spectacle with variegated, buckled strata around its sides and grey-black ash on the rim. A slippery climb with an awesome view !

An abstract representation of the two main features of the Tongariro National Park, Mt Tongariro (in the background) and Mt Ngauruhoe. The Tongariro Crossing, the most famous day walk in NZ, takes you between these awesome volcanoes where the power of nature overwhelms your senses.
“Contrary to what we know about the Earth’s core, the inner mystery of our planet will be revealed as fire...fire without air, fire without fuel, fire without end. When the Earth erupts, fractured; the flames will escape molten lava and iron and the rocks of eternity, and consume us. When, my friends? Not soon. But someday. Someday....” Haaaa….just a little scifi-ish muttering for an early morning (this is an excerpt from a novel I’m working on!!). I created the image as a fractal (Oxidizer) and then edited it in GIMP. Woooohooo!!! I can HEAR the tectonic plates smash and the flames crackle behind them!! / (I hope Yeats doesn’t mind that I borrowed the title) / /

This is a photo I have been holding onto for a long time waiting to process. I finally decided how I wanted it to look so here it is! This is Lake George, in the Mammoth Lakes Basin, Eastern Sierras, Ca. Fly fisherman often fish off of this shelf. I was just starting a hike that passes the lake and this scene caught my eye. The mountain in the background doesn’t have an official name but I have heard it called Red Mountain before. There was a lot of mining activity there in the 1800’s and early 1900’s.

One of many in a recent photo shoot. My niece wanted some “glamour” type photos. This was the first time I had been approached to do sexy shots. Thankfully, I had a hot model with some intuitive moves. :) I found that giving direction to my subjects is an area I really need to work on. I do the makeup, the lighting, get the settings adjusted on the camera but then when it’s “shoot time” I’m like a student choking on the test, drawing a blank. I have no problem bossing my husband around-LoL-but I don’t like bossing others around…a catch 22 because direction is exactly what the subject is looking for from me. Guess I just need to get over it! All of my newer portraits are shot against a green screen with the background keyed out and a digital one dropped into place. Perspective is changed on a portion of the background for depth when doing full body shots along with adding any necessary shadows or lighting effects.

Light Scribble- Individual light trails streaming outward now equals instant volcanic eruption!
We were fishing and I had my camera set up on a tripod as the sun went down. I took this photo maybe 10-15 minutes before dusk. The sun was at the perfect angle to cast some alpenglow on the Sierras in the background. I thought the kayaker was a nice touch too.

Following on from the success of my Camotrooper tee, comes Magmatrooper! Take a trooper, dip him in a volcano and name him king of the magma men… ok, I’m ranting on about who knows what now : ) Enjoy!

This picture was taken form the top of Mount Etna in Sicily. It is the most (and possibly only) active volcano in Europe.
