Like a fairytale castle Mont Saint Michel at dusk in the rain, I got wet and cold but it was worth it for images like this. A blended exposure using HDR techniques. What do you call the light that permanently imprints itself into the deepest corner of your cerebral real estate? Just a memorable one, divine, sublime? The star was going down fast, as it was just a matter of ‘to get it over and done with‘ a daily sunset routine – until that moment. Like it was switched on by some all powerful hand residing somewhere in the center of a kingdom of light, the sunbeam reached across the valley, bringing all the associated attributes with it, like joy and warmth, just for a few moments, before disappearing altogether. The blue cold haze drowned the beautiful Hawkes Bay valley, but not before the last ray of sun got there first. I was standing in awe … for a while in fact, still in disbelief. Review button and LCD screen confirmed it did happen. Sweet. I’ll treasure selfishly the melody of breeze passing through the treetops, the smell of golden grass and feel of fallen leafs under my feet. Not to worry, I left something to share with you. Here it is.

Some nights are special. To walk free, is worth the world. Nothing above but the deep velvet sky and millions of stars, as our ancestors before us. Looking up at the same Moon as they. Some nights are pure magic – charged with something stronger than we. Soft muffled hoot of the owl, whispering leaves, growing things, the smell of damp mosses. What is life, if, full of care, / we have no time to stand and stare No time to stand beneath the boughs / And stare as long as sheep or cows. No time to see, when woods we pass, / Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass. No time to see, in broad daylight, / Streams full of stars, like skies at night. No time to turn at Beauty’s glance, / And watch her feet, how they can dance. No time to wait till her mouth can / Enrich that smile her eyes began. A poor life this if, full of care, / We have no time to stand and stare. By Wm. Henry Davies. “Leisure” / (Wm. Henry Davies (1871-1940) is to be considered as the poet of the tramps. Born at Newport, Wales in the UK, Davies came to America from Great Britain and lived the life of a vagabond. One day, as the result of jumping a train, he lost one of legs. Davies returned to England where he continued to live the life of a tramp and a pedlar. He wrote poetry (presumably he did right along) and, eventually, he determined to print his own book and did so with the little money he earned panhandling. A copy of this first work, A Soul’s Destroyer, came into the hands of George Bernard Shaw; which, in turn, led to the popularization of the poet. FE. Talis varI formula._____

Created from a photograph, a painting, several semi-transparent layers, and some photoshop techniques. This is my first artwork that really communicates my child-like fascination with life. I’ve been driving myself nuts trying to find a song that fits this piece. Turns out the perfect song is one I listen to every day. / Field Of Innocence by Evanescence.
