“The warning came too late…..no place to hide. We were down by the beach taking happy holiday snaps when the ocean started to recede. It took me a moment or two to realise what was about to happen. Everyone started to panic…..I could hardly hold a thought in my head with the sound of my heart beating and the adrenalin pumping through my veins. Then I remembered the cave we discovered at the end of the beach yesterday. That would be our only hope as we started to run. As we entered the cave I took one last look as the Tsunami hit….” Macro photograph taken from a palm tree, overcast day, camera set on aperture priority. Macro photography of bark, rocks and flowers are my passion. Always looking for that special ‘something’ thats a little bit different. Hope you enjoy my story and photograph!

/ This image was inspired by my Grandmothers house. My Grandmother had a very long garden….gorgeous lawn and flowers that led onto a vegetable garden at the bottom alongside an apple tree that I remember climbing and falling out of as a small boy…..picking the apples in the Autumn…great stuff. I also remember stuffing my sister up the tree when she was 3 and not letting her back down….how she howled! Anyway…..the bottom of the garden led to a wood that was kept at bay by a large stone wall in which there was a locked door. I used to terrify my sister with tales of goblins and monsters peering at her through the key hole…..and if she got too close they would reach over the wall, grab her and gobble her up! I told her this for two reasons….....one because I believed it and two…..I was an evil little bastard who wanted to terrify his sister….......It still scares me still!

Took this macro photograph with aperture priority, late in the afternoon, it was getting quite dark so I used a flash on this shot! Just love Palm tree bark, this one had been burnt at some stage creating the charcoal sections. I have a few more fascinating photos which I will be uploading soon! / My passion is macro photograhy. I love to find hidden landscapes and abstract art in the bark of trees or in rocks. I also am quite partial to macro floral photography! Another picture from my peacock feather series. I really enjoy the play of darks and highlights in this water droplet… it seems like a little war is being waged inside the drop… the forces of good and evil… the forces of light and dark… (I have an imaginative mind, don’t I? lol) I hope you enjoy this piece! Macro photograph taken from a rock on the Northern Gold Coast, Qld! Taken with aperture priority, slightly adjusted contrast to make the natural colours pop out! Makes a wonderful nature abstract! This Rock Art Series was taken from the same rock, I really don’t know why these rocks had such unusual colours. I believe they may have been mined from Tamborine Mountain which is famous for its “Thunderegg” rocks. Rocks shaped like large eggs and when you cut them open reveal amazing colours and crystals! Macro photography is my passion, I love to photograph mostly bark, rock and flowers!! / /

Macro photograph from an Australian paperbark tree. This was taken late in the afternoon with my camera set on apperture priority! I am passionate about macro photography, I love to find art in the paperbark tree and rocks. Sometimes I find a miniature landscape hidden in the bark of a tree. The melaleuca tree is one of my most photographed tree barks. Featured in the IPA – International Photographers Alliance group, 9th August, 2008

I found a little patch of wild mushrooms while out walking today. They were huge, white and very beautiful.

We had forgotten to bring a sheet in last night. It was as stiff as a board this morning. I thought this seemed to have an interesting abstract feel to it. More frozen water droplets.

Some abstract rock art from a large rock. Macro photograph with aperture priority, no direct sunlight, late afternoon shot. Macro rock, bark and floral photographs are quite a passion with me, just can’t seem to get enough. Always an adventure looking for the little things created by nature but hidden away!! Sometimes a story will accompany my photographs drawing the viewer to look closer, other times I find wonderful abstracts that would make a great painting! “As I regained consciousness the storm was gaining momentum. I had strapped myself to my raft knowing that I may well not survive the night. As the dawn approached I struggled to hold on to what was left of my makeshift raft. My hands and feet were raw from the rope that I had used to secure myself. The size of the waves was terrifying and I prayed that with the new day the storm would pass and I would be safe…....” Macro photograph taken from a palm tree on the Gold Coast! This was taken just after the middle of the day from the shaded side of the tree. I am rather passionate about macro photography mostly of bark, rocks and flowers!! :) /

Macro photograph from the bark of a paperbark tree. This young tree has grown so quickly the bark has split creating amazing designs and textures! The bark is quite soft and supple. Aborigines used to wrap fish in the bark and then cook it on hot coals. Its also great to wrap around cuts and wounds as the oil is a natural antiseptic. Tea-tree oil is a popular disinfectant is produced and marketed world wide! This was taken late in the afternoon, with apperture priority. I am passionate about macro photography especially bark, rocks and flowers!!!
