Two woodlice, of the species Porcellio scaber, out and about in bright sunlight. Woodlice have many names in different areas – armadillo bug is just one. In Scotland, they are called slaters. Types that can roll up are often called pillbugs. A woodlouse has seven pairs of legs. / They are crustaceans, not insects (both groups are included within the arthropods); woodlice are terrestrial members of the group Isopoda (isopods), which also includes aquatic members. / / They commonly live in cool, damp (but not wet) dark surroundings; for example, under/among stones or decaying wood.
