  • Inspired by a song I wrote in the mid-90’s called “Reach Her With Your Heart” / /

  • Watercolour painting of Red Riding Hood created for the first ever challenge hosted by the group, Myths Legends and Fairytales. It is also my first attempt at a fairytale inspired painting. The concept of an unhappy Red Riding Hood was also inspired by the song Red is Blue by Ben Folds. It is a song off the animated movie Hoodwinked, a fractured fairytale that has become one of my all time faves! / Song Lyrics are below and can also be seen via the link above. / Soundtrack: Hoodwinked / Title: Red Is Blue (Ben Folds) Everything is changing / You’re looking for the cure / And you feel like you’re the loneliest girl in the world / Trouble in your head now / Don’t know what to do / Seems like up is down and red is blue Red is blue / Red is blue Remember when we started / Days when all was fun / All that we could make when life was young / Now you’re getting older / Nothing feels the same / You can’t even make sense of your own name Because red is blue / (Doesn’t make much sense) / But red is blue / (Messing with your head now) / Red is blue Oohh / Oohh

  • All images are © Copyright Rosa cobos 2009 . All rights reserved *Dear friends… / It is my pleasure to invite to this experiment. Initially, I had edited the Leonard Cohen’s, clip “Suzanne”, with, for my taste … an extraordinary result. But unfortunately, the owners of the reproduction rights (a multinational), did not think the same, and they, with justice … banned it from You Tube. I understood that it was a risk that I had taken, and that they had the right to do it. But… my navieté had been more passionate than prudent. / / Well… I had worked really hard for the project that had been haunting my creativity during months… And as the clip had been there all ready for it.. I tried to perform the song myself. Well must admit that that as all my neurons, and guts and heart was so taken by Leonard’s soul and magic, that, though, I had edited the sound.. it did not satisfied me and did not render the artistic level that the song needed. / So what to do? Well.. my purpose was firm… my heart hot.. and my husband as always ready for helping. And then.. humbly decided to recite the lyrics… and lent it a wonderful watery bachian background. So… now… if you remember the music you can look for it in your mind.. or just go to You Tube… where, may be you can find some performing.. of any kind.. of this great man. (I have not looked for it) and if you are contended with the extraordinary poem with such profund symbolism and touching energy, you may hear my voice… while contemplating the Suzanne’s adventures… that since I can remember have moved my whole being till trembling and tears. This is my contribution to this great man and artist, which voice is like a cave where one can feel secure, loved and sensually soul-attracted. / Rosa You can listen and see here . Suzanne

  • Selfportrait to the Can song – which is the coolest song. My favorite song. Period. Mary, oh Mary, so quite contrary, / How does your garden grow? / With silver bells and cockle shells / And pretty men all in a row, / Went to see contrary Mary, / Told her I refuse to tarry. / We spoke very soft and slow / Without your pretty men, Mary, / Standing in a row. / Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary. Smoke a high cool cigarette, / Turn around and then we left, / Smiling as the way began to grow, / We got your pretty men all in a row. / Mary, Mary, so quite contrary, / How does your garden grow? / These silver bells and cockle shells / And pretty men all in a row, / Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary. / When to see contrary Mary, / Told her I refuse to tarry. / We spoke very soft and slow, / Without your pretty men, Mary / Standing in a row.

  • Listening to the Velvet Underground Sunday morning / Brings the dawn in / It’s just a restless feeling by my side / Early dawning / Sunday morning / It’s just the wasted years so close behind / Watch out the world’s behind you / There’s always someone around you who will call / It’s nothing at all Sunday morning / And I’m falling / I’ve got a feeling I don’t want to know / Early dawning / Sunday morning / It’s all the streets you crossed, not so long ago / Watch out the world’s behind you / There’s always someone around you who will call / It’s nothing at all Sunday morning / Sunday morning / Sunday morning

  • Self-portrait, 3rd in Rootless Tree series. What I want from you is empty your head / They say be true, don’t stay in your bed / We do what we need to be free / And it leans on me like a rootless tree What I want from us is empty our minds / We fake the thoughts, and fracture the times / We go blind when we’ve needed to see / And this leans on me, like a rootless… ~ Rootless Tree, Damien Rice

  • Self-portrait, 4th in Rootless Tree series. What I want from this / Is learn to let go / No not of you / Of all that’s been told / Killers re-invent and believe / And this leans on me, like a rootless tree… Rootless Tree, Damien Rice

  • Self-portrait * Flowers of Romance, PiL. “Now in the summer / I could be happy or in distress / Depending on the company / On the veranda / Talk of the future or reminisce / Behind the dialogue / We’re in a mess / Whatever I intended / I sent you flowers / You wanted chocolates instead / The flowers of romance / The flowers of romance / I’ve got binoculars / On top of boxhill / I could be Nero / Fly the eagle and start all over again / I can’t depend on these so called friends / It’s a pity you need to defend / I’ll take the furniture and start all over again”

  • Stylised, abstract piece created for the Music Inspired Art groups latest challenge Summer of 69 – Woodstock celebrating the artists who participated in that momentuous event. / Obviously, this painting is not based on Santana back then, and the music piece is much younger as well! What I have done here, is try to celebrate his amazing career since Woodstock. He has stood the test of time and continues to amaze, bringing younger and younger audiences to him with his wonderful collaborations. / I have also used some symbolism within the piece to honour him. If you know Santana, you will know that Angels have played a big part of his life and are a recurring theme in all of his music. / This theme is even carried onto his album covers with their beautiful designs and stylised, symbolic artwork. / Last but not least, I have painted the background in shades of purple as a testament to his spirituality. Angel By Carlos Santana (featuring Sarah MacLachlan) Spend all your time waiting / For that second chance / For a break that would make it ok / There’s always some reason / To feel not good enough / And it’s hard at the end of the day / I need some distraction / Oh beautiful release / Memories seep from my veins / Let me be empty and weightless / And maybe I’ll find some peace tonight (Chorus) / In the arms of the angel / Far away from here / From this dark cold hotel room / And the endlessness that you fear / You are pulled from the wreckage / Of your silent reverie / You’re in the arms of the angel / May you find some comfort here So tired of the straight line / And everywhere you turn / There’s vultures and thieves at your back / And the storm keeps on twisting / You keep on building the lies / That you make up for all that you lack / It don’t make no difference / Escaping one last time / It’s easier to believe in this sweet madness / Oh this glorious sadness that brings me to my knees (Chorus) / In the arms of the angel / Far away from here / From this dark cold hotel room / And the endlessness that you fear / You are pulled from the wreckage / Of your silent reverie / You’re in the arms of the angel / May you find some comfort here You’re in the arms of the angel / May you find some comfort here

  • 1989. I hadn’t drawn in / over fifteen years. / I was restless, / edgy, / disturbed by something / not definable / or / something merely / hidden or asleep. But a line / kept playing in / my head, / over and over / like a mantra / or a mandate / or / a message, / and I let the song / take me in, / as the lines / from my hands / emerged… This is how I began to draw again. / This is what I opened my story. / It was to this song, and that album, that most of “Heliotroped” was drawn.

  • Courtesy Wikimedia here Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009), dubbed the “King of Pop”, was an American recording artist and entertainer. His innovative contributions to music and dance, along with a highly publicized personal life, made him a central part of popular culture around the world for four decades. One of eleven artists to have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, his achievements included multiple Guinness World Records—including the “Most Successful Entertainer of All Time”—13 Grammy Awards, 13 number one singles, and the sale of over 750 million records. He was also a notable philanthropist, donating millions of dollars to the 39 charities he supported, and raising more through his own Heal the World Foundation. The seventh child of the Jackson family, he made his performing debut in 1964 as a member of the group that became The Jackson 5, beginning a solo career in 1971. His 1982 album Thriller remains the best-selling album of all time, with four others—Off the Wall (1979), Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991), and HIStory (1995)—among the best selling. He popularized several physically complicated dance moves, such as the robot and the moonwalk, now iconic. He is widely credited with having transformed the music video from a promotional tool into an art form, with videos such as Thriller, “Beat It” and “Billie Jean” making him the first African American to amass a strong crossover following on MTV, and others, such as “Black or White” and “Scream”, ensuring his popularity well into the 1990s. Jackson’s personal life generated significant controversy. His changing appearance was noticed from the early 1980s, his skin appearing paler and his facial features becoming almost androgynous. He was accused in 1993 of child sexual abuse, and though no charges were brought, his health suffered when he started using painkillers to cope with the stress. He married twice, first in 1994 and again in 1996, and brought up three children, one of them with a surrogate mother, actions that triggered more speculation about his life. In 2005, he was tried and acquitted of different child molestation allegations, which provoked a further decline in his health. Jackson died at the age of 50 on June 25, 2009, in Los Angeles, after suffering cardiac arrest. His memorial service was broadcast live around the world, and watched by up to one billion people. Courtesy Wikimedia here “Black or White” was the first single taken from Michael Jackson’s Dangerous album, released on November 1991. The single is considered the biggest selling rock song of the 1990s. “Black or White” is a mix of hard rock, dance and rap, but basically it is a hard rock song like “Beat It”. Written, composed, and arranged by Jackson with the rap lyrics by Bill Bottrell, it is a song that promotes racial unity. The song’s introduction and main riff, reminiscent of that of “Hurts So Good” by John Mellencamp are performed by guitarist Slash and Bill Bottrell. The song peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart, as well as in 18 other countries. Courtesy wikipedia here The purpose of black comedy is to make light of serious and often taboo subject matter, and some comedians use it as a tool for exploring important issues, thus provoking discomfort and serious thought, as well as amusement, in their audience. Popular themes of the genre include rape, murder, suicide, war, terminal illness, abuse, insanity, disease and crime. • My tribute to one of the best musicians of all time… / Alice Cooper and his message in the song Generation Landslide which I see around all the time in Hollywood but also in our own backyards…reality TV shows like I Love Money, rampant mobile phones and an endless stream of celebrity advertised goodies for our young ones to need…, where does it stop or do the ‘overindulgent’ just take over the world in the end? Please clean your plate, dear. / The Lord above can see ya. / Don’t you know people are starving in Korea? / Alcohol and razor blades and poison and needles, / Kindergarten people – they use ‘em, the need ‘em. / The over indulgent machines were their children. / There wasn’t a way down on Earth here to cool ‘em, / ‘Cause they look just like humans at Kresges and Woolworths. / But decadent brains were at work to destroy. / Brats in battalions were ruling the streets, / Sayin’ generation landslide closed the gap between ‘em. And I laugh to myself at the men and the ladies / Who never conceived of us billion dollar babies. Militant mothers hiding in their basement / Using pots and pans as their shields and their helmets. / Molotov milk bottles heaved from pink high chairs, / While Mothers’ Lib burns birth certificate papers. / Dad gets his allowance from his sonny, the dealer, / Who’s pubic to the world but involved in high finance. / Sister’s out ‘til five doing banker’s son’s hours. / But she owns a Maserati that’s a gift from his father. / Stopped at full speed at one hundred miles per hour. / The Colgate invisible shield finally got ‘em. And I laugh to myself at the men and the ladies / Who never conceived of us billion dollar babies… La da da da da! / 3 in the Series – ‘Dark Teens’ / I Wanna Be A Supermodel / / Billion Dollar Baby / / The Dark Side Of The Teen / / Lyrics from www.sing365.com All images of my children available to approved buyers. / This is a composite of my daughter Rachel and the cover of Billion Dollar Babies album cover… FEATURED in Abstract Digital Art and Writing Group

  • Selfportrait Sleeping Sun, Coldplay (this song is lovely, listen to it or you suck ;) ). “Climb up your mountain / Nineteen and countin’ / You have got seven, I have got one Blinded and hurtin’ / This I’m deserving / I’ve got my secrets / You’ve only got the sleeping sun When you’ve got a secret / Then you’ve got to keep it / When you’ve got a question / Answers will come Running and hiding / Take and dividing / You’ve got your secrets / I’ve only got a sleeping sun Sleeping Sun / Singing And you, as I, saw / A piece in a jigsaw / Run up and around it and / Jump up real tall. Run round the houses, / North and the south / You’ve got your answers we’ve / Only got a sleeping sun. Sleeping Sun / Singing”

  • In my opinion the beaches of Cape Cod have to be one of the most rewarding photo locations in the world. Everywhere you turn the combination of unique lighting, amazing tidal pools and undisturbed solitude provide photographers with seemingly endless opportunities to capture memorable images. This low tide image is of Chapin Beach in the town of Dennis. While the original unaltered photo can certainly stand on its own merits, I thought that the addition of some texture might give the scene a whole different feeling. To me the weathered wood texture lends an almost painted feel to the final image. An artist could have painted this scene fifty years ago on a piece of old wood found on a beach or in a shed. I can’t wait to vacation on the Cape again and spend hours roaming those magical beaches. “If you’re fond of sand dunes and salty air / Quaint little villages here and there / You’re sure to fall in love with old Cape Cod” / -Patti Page/”Old Cape Cod”

  • “Stay loose, boy / Breeze it / Buzz it / Easy does it / Turn off the juice, boy / Just play it cool, boy / Real cool…” -“Cool”/West Side Story I swear that I was originally going post this one straight out of the camera. My Nikon D70/LensBaby combination captured a really great shot of this 1962 Oldsmobile Starfire convertible. Of course I just HAD to see what would happen if I added a few texture layers… That’s when this wonderful “cool” feeling started to emerge from the picture. I worked with the textures for a while until I came up with this combination. So now i had this shot and i knew it needed a title that expressed the mood i was seeing in the image. I wracked my brain for a bit and then the classic line from “West Side Story” popped into my head: “Just play it cool, boy…” I had a lot of fun creating this image… :-) Please view the image large to best appreciate the texture… /
