  • Ἀπόλλων: Phoebus, of you even the swan sings with clear voice to the beating of his wings, as he alights upon the bank by the eddying river Peneus; and of you the sweet-tongued minstrel, holding his high-pitched lyre, always sings both first and last. / And so hail to you, lord! I seek your favor with my song. / Homeric Hymn to Apollo 21.1–5 More Olympians / / / /

  • Computer Graphics And Herpetology This Frank Miller inspired image is a combination of three separate captures and CG. The result is something totally new. Its different from anything I have done, but its a big hit with the large teen audience I deal with on a weekly basis with my reptile presentations. So in the end it serves a purpose though it is hard for me to venture this far off the normal base for me.

  • Grevillea ‘Golden Lyre’ is a stunning plant that flowers in winter – these flowers are about 20cm long and attract honeyeating birds. ‘Golden Lyre’ is a hybrid of Grevillea formosa from the Kakadu area in the Northern Territory and so it likes a warm spot. These flowers are on a grafted plant I have in a black pot – which is the dark background for the photo. It is taken using natural light not flash. View larger to see the detail!

  • Just in time for Halloween!!! An image composed of other images. This is the third installment of this style of art for me. In this one you can see my hand (with a missing thumb due to a near fatal Stiletto Snake bite I suffered earlier this year), a Desert Lyre snake, and of course the apparent skull. Enjoy.

  • My most favourite bird, the lyrebird. ive never gotten round to drawing this faboulous bird due to lack of photos of them. This one didnt turn out so good however and i will try to do another. these birds can mimic just about anything

  • Here David is playing a Lyre Harp Taken with Panasonic Lumix DMC FX9 This instrument had been described as having a “Beautiful tone! Inlaid arms and stars carved on the soundboard add to the beauty of this instrument. (These ‘stars’ are on the other side of the instrument and cennot be seen here) The lyre is probably the most ancient of harp designs. Harp is held to the side with one arm for playing with the other hand. Very easy to pluck out a melody or multiple strings for chords”

  • The morning sun penetrates the water’s surface illuminating the rocks on the river’s bottom…Lynn

  • A medieval piece of a young lady leaning against a tree playing a lyre. The lyre is modeled after one I built of mahogany…the same lyre also appears in the ceiling mural “Four Seasons”. Both the painting and the lyre are gone, the painting stolen and the lyre destroyed in an accident while in storage. This image and the butt plate from the lyre are all that I have left. This image appeared earlier on Redbubble, but was deleted and reloaded to move it to the front of the order.

  • Dancer among the stones. Brompton Cemetery / London

  • This was an old engraving out of a book called The Exhibitor dated 1852, the Lyre bird was extracted out of the book and the background deleted, this took several days to do, then the image was coloured in using computer software.

  • My cat thinks he’s a lyre bird collecting blue things for courtship but he is really a ragdoll.

  • The alpha star, Vega, is part of the Summer Triangle asterism. Vega was also the first ever photographed star. Check out my Zazzle store Asterisms, Constellations and the Zodiac.

  • A very rare Music making harp from the roman period, for the redbubble t shirt challenge. / Dawn’s Website / /

  • Statue of Apollon playing the lyre (λύρα) in the park of Schloss Nordkirchen near Münster, Germany

  • This is a reproduction of a Saxon lyre, made by Busy Mole Music, and based on the remnants found in the Sutton Hoo burial. It is the instrument referred to as a “hearpa” or harp in the period known as The Dark Ages, between the end of Roman Britain about the 5th century AD and the coming of the Normans in 1066. I got it because I am a storyteller and want to use it when I tell the Norse sagas and the Anglo-Saxon story of Beowulf. I have been pleasantly surprised at how many tunes you can make on 6 strings with no fretboard! I have painted it with acrylics and sealed it under 2 coats of lacquer. / Not my usual artwork, but fun.

  • Dicentra spectabilis, dutchman’s breeches or bleeding Heart? I prefer the more romantic name…

  • Ancient Musical Instrument, this picture was requested to enter the fabulous music of the spirit group, many thanks for the invite, dawn / Zazzle / /
