  • Most people will look at this picture and see a bowl of sugar lumps. / But to me, this picture, taken in a pizza restaurant twenty minutes after receiving my first real digital camera, is a whole world away from being just a bowl of sugar lumps, as it represents the beginning of a personal journey. What a ride. ;O)

  • Taken from above the ski-centre at Glenshee, looking down the mountain (between the Cairnwell and Carn Aosda) at Carn an Tuirc and Sron na Gaoithe – two beautifully smooth rounded eroded mountains with quartzite tops in the middle-distance. Taken on the Hasselblad, using Lucky film, re-toned afterwards.

  • A simple and minamilist view of sugar cubes. I took this shot as part of a project I did on my favourite things. I wanted to create something that would also stand alone as an image without being part of the project, so it needed to have some impact and interest. I am a bit of a contrast fan so a black background against the stark white of the sugar was a must. This was acheived simply by arranging the lumps on a piece of black card. I fiddled around with the placing of the cubes and even sprinkled some grains of sugar on the card to try and get the right shot. The grains made things a little too busy for my taste and took something away from the contrast. The whole thing was done in my studio, which consists of a desk in my bedroom and the sun shining through a window. I used a tripod to keep the image sharp and a piece of white paper to reflect a little of the light back onto the cubes to soften the shadows. I hope you enjoy it Sutter speed 1/4 sec / Aperture f20 / Focal length 49mm / ISO 400 This shot is included in my calender “Numero uno” /
