  • I love 58 Chevy’s…one of my favorite cars. An old shot that I was able to salvage because of my editing skills improving. Needless to say I am happy I was able to! Now generally as a rule of thumb, I would KO the powerlines, but this time I left them in intentionally. Why? Well I started to KO them then went back, after noticing that without them, the telephone pole is just kinda strange and they add a sense of perspective in this shot. Processed with Photoshop, LucisArts, Virtual Photographer, about 7 layers, and custom color retro actions using curves. —-—-—-—-—-- / More of my work can be seen on my website at http://jdebordphoto.com / All artwork is © John De Bord, All Rights Reserved. • Shot on the top of Trailridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado. Standing at approximately 12,000 feet high, I took this shot, then hurried back in the car. Why? Well as the sign stated : “Warning! If there is any indication of thunderstorms or lightning in the area, you should not make this hike. Remember: lightning has been known to strike up to 5 miles from the thunderhead and as the tallest object, you become a prime lightning rod! This applies to all areas above tree line!” And now you know why. And as I sat here surveying the whole scene, like something out of the movie “The 10 Commandments”..... I did start singing “The hills are alive with the sound of mussssssssic!” I was awe struck, and this was a very hard shot for me personally considering my health as of late and the altitude I was at. I overdid it, but ya know, I think the price I paid was well worth it! Many, many more shots to come yet. Stay tuned! Shot Info: / Minolta 5D / Minolta 18-200 DT / 18mm / 1/80 sec / f/10 / Hoya UV Filter / Singh-Ray CPL Filter / Shot in RAW (of course…..) / Single shot HDR processed inside Photomatix / Photoshop / LucisArt —-—-—-—-—-- / More of my work can be seen on my website at http://jdebordphoto.com / All artwork is © John De Bord, All Rights Reserved. • “One Tree Hill” Garden of the Gods, Colorado Springs, Colorado / HDR Processed from RAW inside Photomatix, slight use of LucisArt. Captured on my Minolta 5D and Minolta 18-200 DT Lens, using a Sigh-Ray CPL, Hoya UV. Thoughts welcomed, print to come! _“We turn away to face the cold, enduring chill / As the day begs the night for mercy love / The sun so bright it leaves no shadows / Only scars / Carved into stone / On the face of earth / The moon is up and over One Tree Hill / We see the sun go down in your eyes You run like a river, on to the sea / You run like a river runs to the sea” / —-U2, “One Tree Hill”_

  • Greetings watchers and welcome to Boreas Pass, Colorado at 11,481 feet high in altitude! This place is just magical….the wildflower fields go on forever…..and it is total serenity…no one around at all. Silence, among the high peaks. Gorgeous to say the least. You honestly feel like you are in heaven up here…on top of the world….where the air is so utterly fresh and the smell of the wildflowers is hypnotizing! You literally just stand in complete and total awe. Take it all in and breath….and the one thing I personally am proud of about this shot is how I was able to get that lighting! I am not sure of the peak here… Wikipedia has a nice page up about Boreas Pass Interesting lil facts on there like “The pass was formerly known as Breckenridge Pass in the 1860s” Was just informed on Naturephotographers.net from some of my fellow Colorado Photographers, that this is Quandary Peak Minolta 5D / Minolta 18-200 DT Lens / Singh-Ray CPL / Dynatran 858 Tripod Thoughts most welcomed / —-—-—-—-—-—-— / More of my work can be seen on my website at http://jdebordphoto.com / All artwork is © John De Bord, All Rights Reserved. • “The Road To Home” Ya know, sometimes I just sit in amazement when I am shooting and just look, gaze, and take it all in…..if photography has honestly taught me anything, it’s to see better, noticing things you normally wouldn’t even see. Case in point, this shot here. Most people probably just drive on by this place never giving it a second glance, but to me, it was something very special…...so special that I spent about 30 minutes here shooting it. Living in Colorado really has it’s benefits this time of the year…as Autumn sets in and the sun goes south, the light becomes so utterly magical, thanks to our elevation. It becomes so warm and saturated in the morning, that everything seems so alive….so gold. Captured on a rural backroad between Boulder and Lyons, the old road leading to cattle pastures I felt made a very worthy subject, especially considering the colors involved, the light, and the overall composition with the tree. Let me know what ya all think! / —-John —-—-—-—-—-—-— / More of my work can be seen on my website at http://jdebordphoto.com / All artwork is © John De Bord, All Rights Reserved. • “Independence Pass Overlook” This past summer, I was able to get to parts of Colorado that I haven’t been to in close to 30 some odd years to do some shooting, and this is one of those places. “Famous” (perhaps even “Infamous”) Independence Pass….the second highest paved mountain pass in Colorado. Last time I was here I was about 11, and my Mom said she would never ever come back again, to drive on this road. It is incredibly narrow, though they have done some construction since then, however, what ya see here is just what ya get…..no guard rails and straight down, thousands of feet. It is stunning though, and my only real regret is that I couldn’t shoot it in the morning light, though I think next year I will, just will need to do an overnight as it is several hours away. From “Wikipedia”http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Independence_Pass_%28Colorado%29 / The pass is at the summit of the ridge of the Sawatch Range between Aspen and Leadville, on the border between Pitkin and Lake counties and is located within the confines of the White River National Forest. The pass connects the upper valley of the Roaring Fork River upstream from Aspen with the headwaters of the Arkansas River near Leadville. The pass is traversed by Colorado State Highway 82 and is the second-highest paved mountain pass in Colorado. The top of the pass is well above the tree line and the terrain type at the top is tundra. Its narrow road provides for slow cautious navigation on its approaches. Several switchbacks on each side of the pass make careful planning a must. The pass is always closed in winter, from the first heavy snow fall in autumn, often opening only in late May. • When the thunder comes and you are standing at 12,000 feet, this is probably the last place you want to be. So when the thunder comes and you are the highest object in the Colorado Rockies….run!!! Lightning strikes kill people in the high country every year and needles to say I pretty much high tailed it after shooting this, back to the car as quick as I could. Loveland Pass is a Colorado landmark, and looking here you look out over the Continental Divide. It is the highest mountain Pass in the United States to be plowed and stayed open year around, as trucks carrying hazardous chemicals must cross this way instead of using the Eisenhower Tunnel. I went ahead and decided to process this in HDR using Photomatix and final output through PS CS2, the reason for the HDR was to catch the dynamic light (which seems like I am always chasing) and the drama in the clouds with the approaching thunderstorm. LucisArt used for final detail work. Thoughts welcomed Minolta 5D / Minolta 28mm 2.8 lens (this is the first time I have seen my cam report adjusted crop focal length in the EXIF….wild) / Hoya CPL / 3 Shot HDR from RAW final, processed in Lightroom and PS —-—-—-—-—-—-—— See more on my website jdebordphoto.com / All artwork is © John De Bord, All Rights Reserved. • Like waiting for judgement say, there they stood, in all their glory….40s era Fords, Oldsmobile’s, Pontiac’s, Chevy’s….awaiting the rodders touch to be sculptured in lead, and reincarnated into a new life as a hotrod. Sadly, as much as I love this place, it is now forever gone. I did many shoots at Classical Gas in Eaton, Colorado….and now it is just a memory….it is forever closed as the owner has recently passed away. I was lucky enough to have been here as often as I could…preserving it forever with my camera. And while it is an older shot, it seems just like yesterday I was standing there taking this….time stands still…...much as it did for the classic 40s Detroit iron….... Thoughts welcomed, print to come. Processed with PS, DCE HDR, and LucisArt. —-—-—-—-— See more on my website jdebordphoto.com

  • My second rendition of this shot…..I will miss this place as it has now closed down…sad….at least I was able to capture it while I could. HDR and LucisArt used in processing John

  • Take one 1960 Hotrod Chevy Pickup at a car show in the rain, close focus and crop in camera, and then shove it thru custom settings in LucisArt and use the channel mixer for B&W, and you get something that looks like the textures will just eat you alive! I really like how this one came out…there is just so much to see in this….. / Thoughts welcomed! / —-John

  • When Mercury made some of the badest cars around, when the lines were designed and Chrome reflected it’s wonderful colors. When Rock & Roll was just being born, and tailfins were the norm. Welcome to the Montclair Timewarp! HDR processed, selective vignetting, custom retro color curves, selective dodging and burning. All I can say is that I am ordering a 24×36 print for my wall! I love how this one came out! Thoughts welcomed!

  • This is Sidney, he is a 3 year old Maroon-Bellied Conure… and our “son”. / Actually, we don’t know if he is male or female… for this species, we would need to do a DNA test. However, his avian doc thinks he is a male. He originates from Brazil…. we adopted him when he was 9 months old, and I had to train him to STEP UP. It only took a few days… He has come a long way since. He is mostly outside of his cage, with me… He has gone with us on road trips… some of the places he has been with us. State of Oregon (more then once) My grandparents live there / Yosemite National Park, California / Carmel, California He LOVES being in the car, and travels quite well. Thank you for reading about our Sidney. He is quite the love of our life… Hatch date: 3/25/05 / Adopted by us: 12/30/05 Images copyright ©Kimberly Palmer– / Copying, displaying, manipulating or redistribution of any image from this portfolio without permission from the artist is strictly prohibited
