Reflections of Yosemite Silent Lucidity lyrics Hush now don’t cry / Wipe away the teardrop from your eye / You’re lying safe in bed / It was all a bad dream / Spinning in your head Your mind tricked you to feel the pain / Of someone close to you leaving the game of life So here it is, another chance / Wide awake you face the day / Your dream is over…or has it just begun? There’s a place I like to hide / A doorway that I run to in the night / Relax child, you were there / But only didn’t realize it and you were scared / It’s a place where you will learn / To face your fears, retrace the tears / And ride the whims of your mind / Commanding in another world / Suddenly, you hear and see / This magic new dimension I-will be watching over you / I-am gonna help you see it through / I-will protect you in the night / I-am smiling next to you…in silent lucidity If you open your mind for me / You won’t rely on open eyes to see / The walls you built within / Come tumblng down, and a new world will begin / Living twice at once you learn / You’re safe from pain in the dream domain / A soul set free to fly A round trip journey in your head / Master of illusion, can you realize / Your dream’s alive, you can be the guide but…
The Perfect Composite of Man not only possesses seven physical senses, but also seven Soul senses, which relate to each other. 1.Touch -The power of psychometrize. 2.Taste – The power to absorb and enjoy the finer essence of life wave. 3.Smell – The power to distinguish the spiritual aromas of nature. 4.Sight – The lucid state called clairvoyance. 5.Hearing – The ability to perceive the ethereal vibrations termed clairaudience. 6.Intuition – The capacity to receive true inspirations. 7.Thought transference – The power to converse with spiritual intelligence at will. I was attempting with this work to represent visually that lucid feeling that one gets at times- I get it whenever I paint- when the world outside of one’s focus becomes blurred, even time seems out of wack. Part of you’s cemented in reality like always but a part is somewhere else. Original work 18”x24”, acrylic on masonite.
I sometimes do “reality checks” to see if I am awake of dreaming. There is a huge amount of things you can do like counting your / fingers (in dreams you often have more or less than in reality), looking / at the time (in dreamtime it’s usually something like 99:69 o’ clock), / turning lightswitches on/off (they don’t work in dreamworld). I do this to have a lucid dream, which means I am aware that I am / dreaming and can take control of the dream. This is mainly for fun but / also useful because you can escape nightmares easily, or do things you / didn’t have time to do in daytime (like thinking about what to paint next), / but sometimes it’s also frightening to be alone and awake in your brain… The reality check that works best for me is to hold my nose shut with / my fingers and try to breathe. I had my first lucid dream as I realized I / could breathe under water (because I’m lying in bed, obviously, surrounded / by air). So breathing has become my “trigger” for it and in dreams I can / breathe even when holding my nose shut, as my brain doesn’t let my / “real” hand do it because I am in sleep paralization.
This is a starting image for a new series i am working on to do with common dream themes, more to come….
ink on watercolor paper it was something like a dream. / something like a memory. / something missing that leaves a hole. / a place i’d been trying to avoid. / the messenger guides me there one more. / the air is still and cold. / i will carry it with me. / ...always
