You may think “Waltzing Matilda” or “True Blue” are the next best songs to represent our nation but in my humble opinion this is the unofficial Australian National Anthem! I AM / WE ARE AUSTRALIAN / Bruce Woodley and Dobe Newton, 1987 [1] / I came from the dreamtime from the dusty red soil plains / I am the ancient heart, the keeper of the flame / I stood upon the rocky shore / I watched the tall ships come / For forty thousand years I’d been the first Australian. [2] / I came upon the prison ship bowed down by iron chains. / I cleared the land, endured the lash and waited for the rains. / I’m a settler. / I’m a farmer’s wife on a dry and barren run / A convict then a free man I became Australian. [3] / I’m the daughter of a digger who sought the mother lode / The girl became a woman on the long and dusty road / I’m a child of the depression / I saw the good times come / I’m a bushy, I’m a battler / I am Australian [chorus] / We are one, but we are many / And from all the lands on earth we come / We share a dream and sing with one voice: / I am, you are, we are Australian! [4] / I’m a teller of stories / I’m a singer of songs / I am Albert Namatjira / I paint the ghostly gums / I am Clancy on his horse / I’m Ned Kelly on the run / I’m the one who waltzed Matilda / I am Australian [5] / I’m the hot wind from the desert / I’m the black soil of the plains / I’m the mountains and the valleys / I’m the drought and flooding rains / I am the rock, I am the sky / The rivers when they run / The spirit of this great land / I am Australian [chorus] / We are one, but we are many / And from all the lands on earth we come / We share a dream and sing with one voice: / I am, you are, we are Australian / I am, you are, we are Australian! Bruce Woodley wrote two more verses to accommodate the new growth of our social concious – I managed to get the first line and the last line and as soon as I can get the rest of these two versus I will add them: / UPDATE – found them! / New Verses Performed by Bruce his daughter & Merelyn & David Carter from Kinglake [6] / There are no words of comfort / that can hope to ease the pain / Of losing homes and loved ones / the memories will remain / within the silent tears you’ll find / the strength to carry on / you’re not alone / we’re with you / we are Australian [7] / There are so many heroes / who’s stories must be told / they fought the raging fires of hell / and saved so many souls / From the ashes of despair / our towns will rise again! / we mourn your loss / we will rebuild / We are Australian! [5 repeat] / I’m the hot wind from the desert / I’m the black soil of the plains / I’m the mountains and the valleys / I’m the drought and flooding rains / I am the rock, I am the sky / The rivers when they run / The spirit of this great land / I am Australian [chorus] / We are one, but we are many / And from all the lands on earth we come / We share a dream and sing with one voice: / I am, you are, we are Australian / I am, you are, we are Australian! We are one ….. We are many ….. We are Australian! In May of 2009 all across this country of ours (USA) / Veterans groups will be doing their Forget-me-not street corner and parking lot giveaway of Forget-me-not flower, to remember all those Military Veterans both Men and Women who have served their country and those who gave the ultimate sacrifice their Life so that their fellow friends and family could be a free person, and for those still serving. So when you see a Veteran at your Wal Mart or on a street corner giving away the Forget-me-not reach in your pocket and give something back to help them provide help to other veterans in need of medical or mental help or something so simple that we take for granted a place to sleep that is out of the cold and rain, and tell them THANK you. There are a whole lot of artist on RedBubble who have created art dedicated to the memory of fallen friends and loved ones or just to say thanks to those who have served in the Military, so take a look and tell your favorite artist thanks for their contribution of remembering those who have served. So next time you see a veteran say thank you for being there for your country and I would be Honored to call you a friend. I would like to say here THANK you to all of my friends that served and still remember those who never came back, and say a heart felt THANK YOU to all of you who are still serving, we are all family, THANKS We all need to heal from something related to service and duty to your fellow HUMAN, as simple a phrase as it is Thank you can do such a gigantic task as to heal emotional wounds of war and conflict, and hatred. Richard RedHawk Saunders / Sgt USAF 1969-1976 / Life Member Disabled American Veterans I have created several works but I will not link to them here because it is all about those who have served and need your words of kindness.

Many thanks to the hosts ” One Single Flower” who have honoured me with this Group Feature FEATURES NOVEMBER 2009 / Sony Cybershot, June 2009. Courtesy Wikipedia The family Asteraceae or Compositae (known as the aster, daisy, or sunflower family) is the second largest family of flowering plants, in terms of number of species. The name Asteraceae is derived from the type genus Aster, while Compositae, an older but still valid name, means composite and refers to the characteristic inflorescence, a special type of pseudanthium found in only a few other angiosperm families. The study of this family is known as synantherology. According to the Royal Botanic Gardens of Kew, the family comprises more than 1,600 genera and 23,000 species. The largest genera are Senecio (1,500 species), Vernonia (1,000 species), Cousinia (600 species) and Centaurea (600 species). The circumscription of the genera is often problematic and some of these have been frequently divided into minor subgroups. Asteraceae are cosmopolitan, but most common in the temperate regions and tropical mountains. Daisy Flower Meanings / / Among the flower meanings daisy represents purity and innocence. The specialty of the daisy flower meanings is that there are no negative meanings to it. The meanings of daisy flower are all positive in nature. In the 17th century, Carolis Linnaeus gave daisy its unique name. There are various kinds of daisies found all over the world. Like, the African Daisy / Common Daisy / Michaelmas Daisy / Painted Daisy / Painted Daisy / Marguerite Daisy / Crown Daisy or Garland Chrysanthemum A daisy was often used by maidens to decorate their hair. A common daisy flower meaning is innocence. Devoid of any sin or guilt, daisy is the perfect symbol of innocence. Daisy is often used while confessing undying love. Though the use of flowers for proposing love may be ancient but daisy captures the language of love best with its silence. In earlier days a daisy from a maiden was an honorable gesture and an act of affection. Close to innocence, a daisy also means purity. Though these daisy flower meanings are close to each other, they are not really similar. Innocence is not a guarantee for purity. A daisy can also be used by married woman and personify the purity that daisy symbolizes. Daisy is appropriate in capturing purity of the mind, heart and soul. Thus, daisy is the ultimate symbol of inner sanctity. There are other daisy flower meanings too, which are not romantic in nature. A daisy hints at a wrapped up secret and even points at keeping it hidden. Thus, daisy symbolizes truth too. It stands for the concealed truth, away from everyone else’s notice. When a daisy was given in public, it meant a transfer of secret from the giver to the receiver. and more Daisy Symbolism The flower symbolism associated with the daisy is purity, innocence, loyal love, beauty, patience and simplicity. Daisies are often depicted in meadows in Medieval paintings, also known as a “flowery mead.” Daisies are believed to be more than 4,000 years old and hairpins decorated with daisies were found during the excavation of the Minoan Palace on the Island of Crete. Even further back, Egyptian ceramics were decorated with daisies. Daisies were used in Mary Gardens. Commercially important plants in the daisy family include the food crops lettuce, chicory, globe artichoke, sunflower, safflower and Jerusalem artichoke. Other commercially important species include flowers used as herbs and in herbal teas and other beverages. Chamomile and calendula are grown commercially for herbal teas and the potpourri industry. Echinacea is used as a medicinal tea.
