Tulips – why do I love them so? I had wanted to go out shooting today – it has been so long, and I have been tied up with work deadlines. Instead, I took some beautiful tulips out for a walk around the garden, and introduced them to my lens. My favourite film is one by Stephen Poliakoff’ called ‘Shooting the Past’. There is this line that sticks with me almost everytime i look at a photograph, either my own or someone elses. It goes along the lines of: / ’ I just have to say one thing to make this picture electrifying, these people are about to be hit by the most terrible change, their whole worlds turned upside down …. they have no idea, uncertainty beyond their wildest dreams.’ And i suppose this is the power of photography, the smile frozen in that split second of time, with no knowledge of what the future may hold. This quote has special meaning to me also because i not only go ‘click’ with my camera, but i even find my brain going ‘click’ – i am constantlly framing life. An example of this was several months ago my sister had her first child, a little boy called Oscar – such an amazing day – then on the Sunday, they were supposed be coming home and i can remember ‘click’ i am in the dining room, ‘click’ the phone goes and i walk into the living room to answer it …. ‘click’ my mum is sobbing because he is being rushed to the heart unit for an emergency operation. Every moment for me was mentally frozen in time – and when i look at photographs of Oscar on the day he was born that quote comes flooding back to me. On a positive note, Oscar is now 8 months old – he had another operation a couple of months ago and is thriving. But to sum up, I suppose i just wanted to say that photography is almost like oxygen to me – i need it – i need to record all those around me that i love and tell the story of their lives. I would love to know why you love photogaphy, or painting or writing or anything creative. Love Debxxx

I had such a lovely day yestereday – out with friends during the day – a beautiful walk and lovely meal, then off to see the Rat Pack with family last night – I get home and see I have sold a framed print of Angel – to whoever was so kind, I want to say a huge thanks. I wish I knew who it was so that I could thank them personally but instead I will do it publicly. This means a lot to me, especially as I have dropped of the radar quite a bit in recent months. I also want to thank all those who are still commenting on my work and keeping in touch with me – that means a lot too. Just want to thank Shelley and Simon from Mother Nature’s Finest group for selecting my photo “A Place to Reflect” as one of the group’s featured works. Never in a million years did I ever expect to see one of my photographs featured any where!!! I’m just tickled pink!! Most of you who know me – and who have supported my efforts so generously and graciously- know that photography is neither my gift nor my first love (until recently – lol). [Someday perhaps – lol – I’ll make featured in writing somewhere too and then my joy will be complete – (aren’t I just too greedy??)] But I’m extremely thrilled and very gratified that with a bit of practice, I’m enjoying it more and learning so much about this beautiful and often difficult way of capturing the beauty around us. I just shot my first ever wedding solo last ANZAC Saturday, what an awesome wedding it was! Everything just clicked. Eventhough it was a 5-hr return drive from Perth to Dallelyup (20mins from Bunbury) driving alone in the dark was definitely an adventure! I manage to pass 11 roadkills on the way, spent 15 cumulative hours of post processing despite my Pharmacotherapy midsemester exam coming up which I am screwed for – but worth every single bit of my time. Nick told me that when he and his mum first opened the folder she burst into tears. Hearing those things makes it all worthwhile. So without further ado, here are the photos: Congratulations Nick and May! =)

I’ve been wanting to do this for a while now..I find this gallery is overflowing with cat photos…now that’s not necessarily a bad thing, but I feel as though they are taking all the attention away from my other photography. I’ve been finding myself only shooting cats because that’s what’s mostly viewed, but now I feel that the two should be seperate and that I want to work on my portfolio.
