    by mstrace

You embed your trust into an anvil and tie it to my guts.

This is a short-story/open letter of a sort. It marks my first completed attempt at writing about a subject I have struggled with for many years. Thank you Bell for the inspiration. And thanks to those of you who read it, because my Dad always wanted everyone to read. Dad, this is for you.

  • Forgiveness not forgotten
    by tkrosevear

I forgave you yesterday for hurtful words / today, I compromised for affection / I’ll forgive you tomorrow / and lose more faith in my belie…

Back in 1992, I wrote this quote in my journal, “Forgiveness is a courageous attempt to add steps to the ladder of the future. To forgive oneself is the doorway to heaven and the challenge of lives to come.” I cannot remember who the author was, but this quote is a part of my daily routine - / I forgive myself for what I’ve done yesterday, today and tomorrow! / In my counseling efforts the issue of forgiveness is always misconstrued, that in order to forgive you must embrace the person forgiven – this is NOT to say you need live with them, tolerate future abuse, or forget the lessons learned from this relationship. I guess that this particular belief is what sparked the inspiration for this writing at 2am this morning. / I am hopeful that someone struggling with Self-Esteem earns their presence and ability to hold themself in enough regard and strength NOT to compromise themself for Survival, Affection or Success! / Peace~ Imagine my surprise today 5/6/09, when my sweet sister DevineDay Dreams created created this beautiful artwork to accompany this poem…

  • Lorenzo's Oils (or Lorenzo's Painted Universe)
    by Matt Penfold

When cast upon this hostile shore / I didn’t lose my faith nor curse / This nutshell opened up for me / Lorenzo’s painted universe

I started writing short verses for a series of paintings: “Eighteen Images in Search of a Poet” by Lorenzo Castello. / If you haven’t seen the Tanka verses, also written for this series by Jane Solomon, they are well worth a read, as are a number of other lovely poems by various artists which you’ll find as comments on the images. / I decided to join my verses together as one long and semi-cohesive poem, the meter is not consistent because I wrote a number of these as stand alone verses and had already posted them as comments. I have tried to tie them in and I think it works after a few reads to get the rhythm sorted. I have also recorded it right here I’d like to thank Lorenzo for the inspiration and for permission to include his wonderful images here. I never should have handed you / my pretty pink ballet slippers. They had hung off the edge of my bed / for as long as I can remember, / ...

having a relationship with someone with mental illness can be very taxing. This is just a vent on being the one trying to interact with the one suffering from depression and/or bi-polar disorder. / It is so hard trying to balance the want to be with someone who is not there much of them time…wanting to love them, wanting them there...and the plain, hard fact that they cannot be alot of the time due to their illness – medication or not.

  • Chemistry
    by lianne

Who says I must… / establish my boundaries – / define, maintain and strengthen myself / if that needs to be done at another’s expense? / As…

Someone – probably my therapist, lol – told me once that I needed to establish clear, strong boundaries so I wouldn’t be “taken advantage of” by someone to whom I thought I offered nothing but love. I’ve never really believed in boundaries….I don’t think women are particularly good at them in any case. George Eliot – “Many things are difficult and dark to me; but I see one thing quite clearly – that I must not, cannot seek my own happiness by sacrificing others.” Apologies to scientists – particularly chemists – for the literary license I’ve taken with the concept of atomic structure and bonding. Chemistry is not my strong suit but even I know that in actuality the ionic bond formed by one of these “greedy” atoms with a weaker one is stronger than the covalent or metallic bonds which I indicate here are preferable. However, it is the principle of shared electrons, of malleability, and the creation of a whole new substance from the original elements that most appealed to me.
