Motherhood demands not only Compassion, Courage and Friendship, but UNCONDITIONAL love. / The appreciation of Motherhood is written on their faces. The appreciation of a mothers embrace is equal only to the appreciation of a childs embrace. This is a digital remake of a water colour pencil, lino cut rubbing. Yes, that is my shadow taking his picture… Took this picture Straight from the Camera, no editing.
As it is, straight from my camera, no editing.
OK….so I am having fun with this technique…I am officially obessed with my self…and after this I think I am officially sick of my own face….lol I really pushed the limits on this one just to see how far I could take the exaggerated eyes. Tons of fun…..what do YOU all think???
Apologies for the crap photo. Not sure what got into me when I painted this. I had a blinding headache and with each daub of paint it got worse and worse…and the painting got more and more strange. The entire background was filled with tiny coloured dots and looking at it was making my vision blurry….which is why I painted out the background with this very dull beige colour…that was my way of trying to turn down the volume of the pounding in my head. Interestingly, as soon as I signed it, my headache disappeared. medium: acrylic paint on stretched canvas size: 50cm x 70cm currently listening to: / Gabriel Yared – Like A Bird On The Way To Montreal / – from one of my favourite films of all time, Map of a Human Heart .... Please, please, please get this film out on DVD. If it doesn’t fill up your heart…..well…... Here is a review by Siskel & Ebert ... What does this have to do with my painting? So much….its hard to explain. I saw this film when it was released in ‘93. Perth girl in Melbourne for the first time, I was 29 and nursing a broken heart. My friends, Sue and Julie, had been taking me out every night of the week for approximately two months…when shopping in the city one afternoon, I saw a poster for the film and was struck by the title. Map of a Human Heart......hmmmm…I thought…....that’s quite a concept. I wondered whether the film could deliver such a promise. Thinking back on it now, I see that I wanted to escape into someone else’s life for a couple of hours. What happened was…I saw the…. magnificence ... the enormous, open landscape of my own life that I had only just begun. I wanted one day to look back on the story of my own life…and for it to be interesting and beautiful and poignant ....and for that to be the case, then there had to be heartbreak and pain….and although embarking on each new love affair carried the certain promise of anguish at some point…..a life without love would not be much of a story at all. I’m gonna stop writing now. I could easily bang out 3000 words if I had the time. I may come back to this later.
Self portrait by me, by me ;) ~Inspiration song: The Look Of Love By Dusty Springfield, 1967… Check Out the French Version By: Info: Dusty Springfield “The Look Of Love” (1967) Music written by Burt Bacharach & lyrics written by Hal David. “The Look of Love” is a popular song. Since its first appearance in the 1967 James Bond film Casino Royale, it has become synonymous with lounge and easy listening music. The song was sung by Dusty Springfield for the Casino Royale soundtrack, and was nominated for an Oscar. Springfield re-recorded the song the same year in London and released the song as the B-side of “Give Me Time”. Claudine Longet recorded the song on her 1967 album of the same title. Lainie Kazan also recorded “The Look of Love” (arranged by Pat Williams) on her 1967 album Love is Lainie. Sergio Mendes’ hit rendition on the Sergio Mendes & Brasil ‘66 album Look Around, reached #4 on the pop charts after their performance in the Academy Awards telecast in March 1968. The lead vocal on this single was handled by Janis Hansen, not Lani Hall, a rarity in the early Brasil ‘66 canon. In 1969, soul group The Delfonics also covered the song on their album La La Means I Love You. During 1970, Isaac Hayes covered the song for his 1970 album …To Be Continued. While Hayes used the same lyrics, his cover includes a unique instrumental which has been heavily sampled on R&B and hip-hop records.

/ / / OIL PAINTING / Image Copyright © 2008 JANE À PARIS / Professionally photographed by Citizens Photo The original title was: MY MOTHER – GRIDLOCKS AND IRON BARS – A SELF PORTRAIT / MA MÈRE – EMBOUTEILLAGES ET BARRES DE FER – AUTOPORTRAIT I had to shorten it for the print to: GRIDLOCKS AND IRON BARS This is a self portrait which seeks to depict the endless cage I am being kept in because of politics. The lines represent prison bars and the blocks of color represent other forms of torture, emotional, spiritual, mental, physical, and financial to name a few. I went to France to try to escape the torture of my homeland, America, that is why I am wearing a beret in this painting. This is what I looked like when I was in France. I SPEAK FLUENT DOG
A self portrait. I’m still not too sure about it! / /
OIL PAINTING / Image Copyright © 2008 JANE À PARIS / Professionally photographed by Citizens Photo ...wandering across the globe and confronted by the same system elsewhere, (for the State lurks everywhere)...it is a story of a never-ending search of self, place, peace, civil rights, dignity, respect, freedom, and functionality within a system that denies all of these things to you over and over…the system does not work for you…le système ne fonctionne pas pour vous… you have no rights…you are a slave…dependent on the mercy and kindness of others…and punished by those who are not kind or merciful and think they have some right to prey on you and keep you in a bubble, or goldfish bowl…as Blanche Dubois said in a Streetcar Named Desire…’I have always depended on the kindness of strangers’...being kept powerless, where your sexuality becomes a tool to punish or keep you…in a cage…you are a FISH IN A BOWL, THAT IS BEING CONSTANTLY WATCHED BY OTHERS, (NO PRIVACY), AND YOUR RAFT IF LEAKY, YOU ARE SINKING…WATCH OUT FOR THAT SHARK…YOUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS PARADE AROUND YOU…REALLY MAKING FUN OF YOU AND MOCKING YOUR POWERLESSNESS…YOU MOST CERTAINLY DO NOT FIT IN WITH THAT SCHOOL OF FISH, THE NORM OF SOCIETY, YOU HAVE BEEN MADE AN OUTCAST, ALTHOUGH THEY DO REFER TO THIS EXPERIENCE OF CONSTANT HUMILIATION AND DEPRIVATION OF JUSTICE AND RIGHTS AS SCHOOL…SEEMINGLY IMPLYING THAT THEY ARE TEACHING YOU SOME SORT OF LESSON BY KEEPING YOU IN ENDLESS BONDAGE… This oil painting is about State Torture. They isolate you like a goldfish in a bowl, on display for everyone because they constantly violate your privacy and have no regard for your privacy. The shark represents my ex-husband and the police taking a bite out of my raft (body). The octopus (eightpus, octopie, or atepus) represents the physical torture never going away, in fact staring obnoxiously and blatantly at me never-endingly. Staring me down. Down, down, down. The schools of fish in the background are the normal people, going about their everyday business and ignoring a political freak like me. And the superior flying fishies around my raft are the mean and cruel people who think it is funny to torture and abuse me by playing mind games, lying to me, controlling me, denying me opportunities, harassing me, and —POKING—fun at me. They can fly because they are so superior. They are parading around my raft making fun of me. The big hand at the top of the goldfish bowl is God. Other’s might not love and nurture me, but God loves and nurtures me, because I am his child and I love him, so he loves me. I took many images when I visted the Metropolitan Museam of Art and my love and appreciation for art grows stronger everyday. I made an image here in which I surrounded myself with some of the beautiful art that I saw there that day. I have a deep appreciation of the piano and they have a magnificent collection of pianos there. Of all the images used… the piano means the most to me. Thank You for your comments and views!
Idea was about spreading out the love ^^ I was trying to catch the moment they were already blown and flying, but didn’t manage it as well
