Sometimes there is a look / that crosses your face / lighting you from within / a flickered rememberance…

Scribbled this the other evening. Wanted to put myself in the place of one who is slowly losing their soulmate to time. Inspired of conversations with friends on the effects of age and experiences of our grandparents. The human heart holds such deep secrets even when the mind seems a little lost.

Memories of Autumn, it’s my favorate season and after writing this poem, I now ACTALLY know why…. / I always thought it was just because I liked the cooler weather, but I have (just) realised I like the memories of this time of year and that has manifested into me loving Autumn; not the other way around. / Thanks Linda for commenting on Autumn Equinox Fruit; which is where this poem started. / And thank you David for sugesting I write a “positive” poem – as promised it is to you too!

This is a tributary work to my grandfather. It started as a poem and is now in more of a song format but I haven’t put any music to it. It’s difficult to work with because it’s so close to my heart. I am truly honored by my grandfather and the men and women like him who serve our country. / MCN:C418C-2486F-81FA6 If you have someone you would like to honor Please go here & post a square for them

A sequel to “Time Before”. Taken together they depict the passing of time from childhood to a very old age lived alone by the survivor of a life spent with a loved one now deceased but deeply missed and remembered. The focus is on change, but also on how, for the character, a long life is but a fleeting moment packed with memories that never fade. Inspired by the people who spared their time to talk to me during a period of reminiscence research I completed some while back in a remote, rural community in the Hebrides. NB. The word “tide” used in the last line is a colloquialism used in the north of England. It means guide/carry/protect. I’ve kept it in here, as I cannot think of an equivalent in formal English, that is, a word that carries the same complex sense. Most likely this use derives from seafaring, as do so many English words and phrases.
