An old acrylic on wood panel painting. This work is symbolic of enlightenment.The enchantress looks into her reflection in the bowl of clear water, representing the inner reflection that is necessary. On the wooden bowl is the double spiral representing harmony, creativity, and the flow of energies in the universe. Behind her is the circle of enlightenment, comprising four component circles of virtue, compassion, understanding, and tranquility. Surrounding the circle is a forest, symbolic of a return to an appreciation of nature that one needs to experience in the process, while on the inside of the circle there is no physical distraction. Meaning that we must go beyond the realm of physical form and experience a tranquility of mind. I have chosen to illustrate the concept of enlightenment through the portrayal of a ‘witch’ because the wiccans I’ve met are generally nice people, even though as an athiest and a sceptic I disagree with most of their belief system. However their attitudes towards other people are usually more broad minded and less offensive than those of Christians.
