The characters in this design are styled on Japanese Kanji characters, but are actually in English. If you look closely, you can read what this tshirt says. In Zen Buddhism, “Kill the Buddha” refers to how one should not worship and idolise scriptures, teachers, or statues, but rather trust in one’s own abilities, in one’s own heart and mind. Obviously, nothing literal should be taken from this design. By externalising spirituality, one can become caught up in acquiring knowledge and spiritual attainments, adding another retreat or technique ‘notch to the belt’, so to speak. Therefore, the idea behind the design is very much related to spiritual materialism. The central character means ‘Buddha’ in Japanese Kanji.

Thailand is 95% Buddhist, and the quantity of wats (temples) and other holy sites are too numerous to count. The Thais have also erected huge Buddha statues, 30 to 40 meters high, and often located them on hill tops. They are an amazing sight and experience to behold.

The original Buddha statue is over forty feet tall. I love the Thai’s veneration of Buddha in such wonderful and decorative ways.

Okay, so this is a message… or even a sermon Tee shirt. These are coming out of my current reading… I read a sentence that resonates with me, inspires me… and I think (now that’s probably the problem right there, thinking!) oh, I can put that on a Tee… that’ll emphasize the concept for myself, and maybe someone else at the same time. / Well, if any of these Tees work for you, GOOD!
