I don’t know about the rest of you but redbubble has made me act all youthful and excitable again. I’ve never had much of a forum to display my perhaps mediocre photos but redbubble has roused emotions in someone like me who is otherwise quite difficult to affect with hype. I’m acting like a teen with a crush on my first love, constantly logging onto redbubble to see what comments I’ll get next and to pray for that one messgae which says that I’ve made a sale. Not really because of the money and certainly not because I think it makes me anything more as a photographer, but it’s the feeling of the chase in the anticipation and the desire for valid, external recognition. Am I the only one here who feels like that?

Whilst reading a @webgrrl post , these two statements got me writing: 1. Self love is much more rewarding :) / and 2. No better Love than the Unconditional one…. Statement 1 is good and important. Self-love is self-confidence. It’s about using your talent constructively, establishing who you are through your actions, and having a direction in life. Self-love also helps you to know that everyone and everything can and will change – and knowing what you are going to do when it happens. Self-love is often all we have. Statement Two is interesting yet also true. When we place conditions on our friends and family, we constrict their self-worth, we stifle their inner-selves and we breed doubt in their minds. / (_Hmm, family might read this…_oh well.) Whereas unconditional love says we enjoy being with someone despite any foibles, habits or faults. Unconditional love tells a friend when they’ve made a big error, when their art is not, or when their under-arm deodorant isn’t working! Most importantly, having friends whose love is unconditional will mean you will be told when your path/choice in life is changing the person you are, thereby making you a different yet better (or worse) person! The family and friends we’ve all suddenly gained on RB certainly allows us to be more creative, to learn from our mistakes, and to travel the preferred journey – and get appraised for our efforts along the way. In all communities, artists are a necessity: They help foster imagination, they put pictures to the dreams of many and they encourage conversation. Can you find a museum or exhibition anywhere that has failed to gain an audience? From the pavement-chalk-artist to the island-wrappers of this world, everyone loves to view, explore and talk about art. This started as a comment on @webgrrl’s journal, but got so long

I guess over the years I have developed a niche or love for photographing certain subjects more than others. I have a huge thing for hot rods, classic cars & trucks. It stems from a childhood spent at race tracks with my dad. I grew up in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s when hot cars and rock ‘n’ roll were king (and in my world they still are!). I’ll be sharing some of my favorite cars here. I also have a thing for getting into the “heart” of flowers. I find macro photography both fascinating and challenging. I enjoy getting out and about around San Diego photographing what I think is “America’s Finest City”. There are so many exciting places in this county…and many of them are free to enjoy! I don’t really enjoy photographing people. In fact, I can get a little annoyed when they are in my shot. ;) However if someone adds to the shot then I am pleased. I also love shooting portraits of my beautiful daughter because she doesn’t get annoyed with me. My sons are a different story however. I’m looking forward to sharing my photos and getting to know everyone here!

What a nice surprise today: my photograph Waterfall on Jedlova brook became featured in the Live, Love, Dream Group : Thanks to the hosts of the group, and thanks to all of you for commenting on my work – it’s much appreciated! This is one of my photographs with a story behind them, on ‘making of…’: In September 2007, we went to Hejnice, an ancient pilgrim place in Jizera mountains, Czech Republic. I wanted to photograph waterfalls, that’s why we made a trip to the valley of Jedlova brook. There’s a parking place just at the lower end of the valley. From the parking place, a nice broad walking path leads to the valley… Our junior was not yet two years old at that time, and walking the whole day would be too much for him, that’s why we’ve decided to take a buggy with us to give him a ride when he gets sleepy. Half an hour later, the nice broad track ended and only a narrow stony path continued up the valley! A terrible optimist am I, I’ve decided to continue as we were, including the buggy – after all, it may go better again further on… It didn’t! Fortunately, our small tourist walked happily for quite a long time and I was able to make photographs of some nice waterfalls before he finally got tired. Then, we would carry him a bit further, coming to the uppermost part of the valley and the last (or first, in fact) waterfall. Done? Not at all! At that moment, it started to rain (as it did most of the week!) and we had to return the whole way back to the parking place (with a sleeping child in a buggy), and the older one quite tired too… OK, I will let the rest of it to your imagination, but believe me, I always have to smile a bit reading discussions on ‘how do you carry your tripod’... (of course I had my one with me, how would I photograph waterfalls in dark forest, going for motion blur in water anyway?!?) Have a nice day and good light, my dear friends! / Lenka
