  • For coffee lovers around the world, now you can drink your coffee and stare at it too! Just seven photographs, yet each makes you scream for ‘MORE, MORE, MORE!’. With this calendar on the office wall, these glorious photographs of coffee beans, silver spoons and clean white cups will be there when the jar, mug and spare change is depleted. These were shot about 18 months ago when I first purchased my Canon Speedlite 580EX II Flash , still my favourite photography accessory. I love a sunburnt country, / A land of sweeping plains, / Of ragged mountain ranges, / Of droughts and flooding rains. / I love her far horizons, / I love her jewel-sea, / Her beauty and her terror - / The wide brown land for me! A stark white ring-barked forest / All tragic to the moon, / The sapphire-misted mountains, / The hot gold hush of noon. / Green tangle of the brushes, / Where lithe lianas coil, / And orchids deck the tree-tops / And ferns the warm dark soil. Core of my heart, my country! / Her pitiless blue sky, / When sick at heart, around us, / We see the cattle die- / But then the grey clouds gather, / And we can bless again / The drumming of an army, / The steady, soaking rain. Core of my heart, my country! / Land of the Rainbow Gold, / For flood and fire and famine, / She pays us back threefold- / Over the thirsty paddocks, / Watch, after many days, / The filmy veil of greenness / That thickens as we gaze. An opal-hearted country, / A wilful, lavish land- / All you who have not loved her, / You will not understand- / Though earth holds many splendours, / Wherever I may die, / I know to what brown country / My homing thoughts will fly. Dorothea Mackellar / (1885 – 1968)

  • Various views of Edinburgh in Scotland, UK. Edinburgh; Scottish Gaelic: Dùn Èideann is the capital city of Scotland. It is the seventh largest city in the United Kingdom / and the second largest Scottish city after Glasgow. Located in the south-east of Scotland, Edinburgh lies on the east coast / of the Central Belt, along the Firth of Forth, near the North Sea. Owing to its rugged setting and vast collection of Medieval / and Georgian architecture, including numerous stone tenements, it is often considered one of the most picturesque cities in Europe.Edinburgh is well-known for the annual Edinburgh Festival, a collection of official and independent festivals held annually over about four weeks from early August. The number of visitors attracted to Edinburgh for the Festival is roughly equal to the settled population of the city. The most famous of these events are the Edinburgh Fringe (the largest performing arts festival in the world), the Edinburgh Comedy Festival (the largest comedy festival in the world), the Edinburgh International Festival, the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, and the Edinburgh International Book Festival. Other notable events include the Hogmanay street party (31 December), Burns Night (25 January), St. Andrew’s Day (30 November), and the Beltane Fire Festival (30 April). The city attracts 1 million visitors a year, making it the second most visited tourist destination in the United Kingdom, after London.

  • I lived in the UK for over twelve years and spent most of that time in London. I dwelled there during the change of millennium witnessing the great celebration that took place in the form of a revolutionary, state of the art architecture. I have seen the transformation of an old power station into the awesome Tate Modern, the erection of the Millennium Wheel, the building of the Millennium Bridge and the controversial Millennium Dome, the Hungerford Railway & Pedestrian Bridge, the London Gherkin – the new Sir Norman Foster Swiss Bank Building-, other buildings and monuments. It’s in London that I took up photography following a course based in the States and it’s London that inspired me to become an artist photographer. The magic atmosphere of its huge parks, the imposing buildings, either historical or modern, the contrast between building styles, sometimes placed next to each other, the eccentric markets, i.e. Camden Lock and Stables, Portobello, Brick Lane etc., the street performers in Covent Garden, the classic black cabs and red double decker busses (almost extinct now), the theaters and the many other things – impossible to mention all – , provided me with enough inspirational material to make me feel I could spend all my life producing work based on this city alone! / More images may be viewed on my site: www.aldocervato.com . Medium: Black and White film mostly Kodak Tri-x, 35mm and 120 medium format.
