  • I posted this image earlier and then got a request from one of my former students to create another version of the same picture, this one as a Cajun Christmas card. In her email to me, she wrote, “Yesterday, I found out I relapsed… A tumor that was dormant for two years awoke from its slumber… so back to the battle… and you know this Cajun is going to fight like a true Cajun!” I’m dedicating this card to Robyn and to her fighting spirit. I hope that everyone who views this card and reads this entry will pray for her to win this next round of her battle with cancer. Robyn is a gifted athlete who abounds with humor and the Cajun joie de vivre, joy of life! Please spread the word; united prayer is powerful. And a very Merry Cajun Christmas to you and yours!

  • Squirrel sneaking a drink from the murky swamp waters hanging upside down from a Bald Cypress tree on Bayou Desiard – Ouachita Parish Louisiana. This is one of my favorite shots and honestly one of my first paddling trips to Bayou DeSiard after returning to Louisiana. I had been away for about 15 years. This scene was less than 50 yards from the Public Boat Launch at Frenchman’s Bend. I have seen this behavior displayed many times since this shot, but oddly never noticed it before the day this image was captured. Nikon D1X / Micro Nikkor 55mm 2.8 / Manual Focus / Aperture Priority / Shot from pirogue (small Cajun boat) All work © Keith Skinner – All Rights Reserved / No image may be reproduced, copied, transmitted or distributed by any means without prior written consent.

  • I took this photo at Cypress Bend in western Louisiana.

  • I don’t often see monarch butterflies, so when I spotted this one at Hodges Gardens near Many, Louisiana, I employed my husband’s help in trying to get a good shot at it. Tommy stood guard at the upper level of the butterfly garden while I posted myself in the lower portion. Thanks to my husband’s keen eye, I finally relocated the elusive flutterer and got this photo of it to which I’ve applied some PS filters.

  • A companion piece to our very popular Doors of New Mexico poster, this grande dame of a poster will look fantastic anywhere in your home. Like a walk through the French Quarter, you’ll find all kinds of fun and mystery in these beautiful photos featuring colorful, washed out, or just plain fascinating porches and doors.

  • Fluffy reminds me of a little blue snowball; he sends his greetings from the Barry family to all the good friends here at Red Bubble. May your Christmas be happy and holy and blessed and may 2009 be bright and beautiful and filled with wonder and joy! Love to everyone, Bonnie Postscript: Fluffy is a old crony of Frosty the Snowman. They don’t get to see each other much, though, since Fluffy relocated down South. Frosty would love to come for visits, but the heat plays havoc with his health. They content themselves with an occasional email and phone call. Fluffy and Frosty send their best to everyone!

  • This male Eastern bluebird delivers the grub to the babies in the nesting box in a far different fashion from the way the female operates. She dives into the opening, feeds the chicks, removes debris and waste, and exits in a flash. Her mate, on the other hand, lands on whatever nearby perch he can find, shows off the cricket, caterpillar, grub worm, or grasshopper he just succeeded in hunting down, looks intently in my direction, turns this way and that, and then delivers the goods to the babies. Afterwards, he often goes back to his perch, giving me a view of his beautiful self from every possible angle. Finally, he tires of all the posturing and takes off in search of yet more prey for the hungry nestlings. I think he’s got lots of personality and I love watching his antics.

  • ...love repetition at the best of times, however, finding these extra large scale tyres whilst walking the streets in Franklin, Louisiana was a shot I got so excited about.

  • ...about an hour north of New Orleans you start hitting these amazing mansions and plantations, this is the view looking away from the mansion – I found the dual minimal landscape framed by these amazing oaks a cool sight and the tourists played the perfect role.

  • Mother and child Great Blue Heron as night falls . . . I thought of the song, “Help me make it through the night” while I worked on this piece. I’d be remiss if I didn’t give my husband Tommy credit for this photo. He saw the mother and child as he was driving in St. Mary Parish. He pointed them out to me, turned the vehicle around, and positioned the truck so I could get this shot. Without his keen eyes, I would have missed this endearing scene. Thank you, Tommy; I couldn’t do it without you!

  • Some people call the Roseate Spoonbill a Cajun Flamingo. Here is a lovely pink lady balancing delicately on a limb at Jefferson Island rookery where there is a large colony of waterfowl in residence during the spring and summer months.

  • Lake Martin, at Cypress Island, Louisiana, is a refuge for many water birds, including the great white egret and the great blue heron pictured here, along with moss-draped cypress trees from which the place gets its name.

  • Cattle egret posing grandly at the rookery on Jefferson Island, Louisiana.

  • This brown pelican and seagull were hanging out at Grand Isle, Louisiana, occupying the same friendly spot on a sunny day in September.

  • Roseate Spoonbills are among my favorite birds. This male was posing on a branch in Iberia Parish in southern Louisiana.
